Re: Albums of 2015
Just streamed Richard Thompson's Still (which drops later this month) on NPR.
It's a monster. I fucking loved it. His best effort in a while. At least since Mock Tudor. Maybe even since Rumour & Sigh.
Holy Shit.
Jeff Tweedy produced, for those you might want to know.

Also, spun the latest Best Coast a couple of days ago for the first time. That one might become a summer mainstay.

Heard the first RT track and it's nice. Mock Tudor was the last album I really invested in so I'm keen to finish this album

Re: Albums of 2015
It's just pure summer pop. I love that kinda thing. Certainly not a "great" record. But one I'll look forward to listening to a lot over the next few months.zeb wrote:It seemed like an OK record to me too.durdencommatyler wrote:Also, spun the latest Best Coast a couple of days ago for the first time. Flesh World THE WILD ANIMALS IN MY LIFE (Iron Lung, 2015)
"It’s not often that fuzzed-out C86 jangle and brash queercore find common musical ground, Flesh World's inception focused less on their other bands (Limp Wrist, Needles and Brilliant Colors), and more on their mutual love for drag shows and punk gigs, as their vision took form in the under dwellings of San Francisco’s DIY scene." -Max Mohenu/Pitchfork
The Wild Animals In My Life is the first full album and second 12" sized record for this incredible reverb swarm. Knowing and growing from the past unto now, power is the underlying draw here. Lulled by the fist/pummeled by the euphoria.
Hearty black vinyl in a heavyweight full color jacket with a poster insert even.

Beatnik Walking is on this month's Uncut magazine CD and I enjoyed it muchly. I do like Richard Thompson a lot, in particular his "Action Packed - The Best of the Capitol Years" is a fave album of mine. 1952 Vincent Black Lightning is one of the best songs ever.durdencommatyler wrote:LetMeSleep wrote:Heard the first RT track and it's nice. Spray Paint Punters on a Barge
I've seen Spray Paint play out a few times and kill it, but never been that enamored with their records. This time though, they NAILED it.

Re: Albums of 2015
This has been the year of "Who the hell are these guys?" So far it seems I haven't been too impressed with much... my top albums of 2015 are:
Other Lives "Rituals"
Jaga Jazzist "Starfire"
Mew "+-"
Drenge "Undertow"
MMJ "The Waterfall"
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds "Chasing Yesterday"
I know it's been panned around here, but I've always had a soft spot for Noel's vocals, even on the not-so-rare occasion he would sing lead for Oasis (see MTV Unplugged)...
Looks like I've got work to do, seeing how it's nearly halfway through the year and I have only six albums that I even like!!!
EDIT: Sleater Kinney may be badass and all, but I've never been able to enjoy their vocal stylings, and that's a dealbreaker (more RM sacrelige).

Real good stuff from this newcomer. For folk, bluegrass, country fans. The whole album is worth a listen.

El Ten Eleven - "Point Breeze"
El Ten Eleven announced a new album set to be released on August 21, titled Fast Forward. "Point Breeze" is the first revealed song from the album. Definitely a pretty classic-sounding tune for the band. It's mellow, but still has a breezy, kind of laid-back energy.

I always thought Dawes was a decent band, but the new one is very good.

Not sure how much I like this song, but at the very least I'm impressed by how much the verses sound like The Blue Nile.psychobain wrote:

After hearing a couple of tracks from Warren's new album with Railroad Earth, I am really looking forward to it:
