So it seems I like his solo stuff a lot more than anything he's done in a band

I just don't understand how some albums can be called solo albums. I mean, this clearly isn't a solo album.

Ever considered the liner notes for a Bob Dylan record? Neil Young? Elliott Smith?

Is it?

I would've thought a 'solo album' is generally understood as being a shorthand way of differentiating a project where one person takes charge of the creative direction from a band-type situation in which a number of people have input.

I guess I have a hard time believing all these people had 0 creative input, or that Jack White (or whoever the solo artist is) told all these different people exactly what to do. Also, doesn't the musicianship of the various musicians playing on the album have a large effect on how things sound? Didn't mean to make a big fuss, just a thing that bugs me about solo albums.

I went to a Dan Deacon / Girl Talk show in the summer of, oh, 2007. I can only remember motion blurs, various sounds, trying to jump from the top of a speaker stack onto the stage (fell short the first time, succeeded the second!), doing a sloppy make-out session with someone on stage. It was basically the last hurrah of my youth; I started dating the woman who would become my wife like 3 weeks later.

Okonokos is my favorite live album of all time--and contends for entering the list of "favorites albums" period. This was My Morning Jacket at the height of their powers:
