Re: Movie: Mad Max - Fury Road
It's a lot to unpack while I'm typing on my phone, but Hardy is wrong for the role, the action is superficially impressive but never truly expressive or lyrical (the last three Fast and Furious movies have sequences that outdo this movie), the score is generic and does not sell the set-pieces nearly enough (the classical music in the trailer should have played through the entire movie), the digital cinematography is distractingly rough and choppy, the characters and narrative fail to create an emotional connection, and the subtext is simplistic, didactic, and stale. I hope someone else directs the next Mad Max.spike wrote:this movie kicked ass

Re: Movie: Mad Max - Fury Road
I saw this the other night with a mate. For the first time ever I did it "Gold Class". I had them deliver me an ice cold beer every 30 minutes. It was excellent in every way - great movie, great comfort, great beer, great service.
This was quite likely my most enjoyable movie experience...ever.

I finally saw this. It was a lot of fun in an utterly disposable way.

Watched this again last night. Pretty sure, by the time they are shooting motorcycle bombers out of the sky from their underwear model-filled big rig while what sounds like a Hans Zimmer score for a Chris Nolan movie plays, I'm 100% in.

Re: Movie: Mad Max - Fury Road
I did enjoy this, and I probably need to see it again, but this movie feels pretty overhyped. The car chases were excellent and the action was very good all around, but there's no character development, or even characters to speak of. And the alleged feminism of the movie is seriously overblown. Furioisa is a kick ass character, but she's not the first strong female action hero we've seen, and characters like Sara Connor, Katniss, or even Black Widow are more interesting. At least someone finally took a courageous stand on behalf of women everywhere and was willing to say that keeping women as breeding cattle is wrong.

Re: Movie: Mad Max - Fury Road
I don't think character development is really required here. Its The Man With No Name vs Emperor Palpatine in a 2 hour car chase. We know who these people are, and dedicating much time to character might detract from what the movie is trying to be. Character development comes in the form of extremely efficient little moments and visuals(though a lot of them fall flat), but again, there isn't much use for more than that in this movie. I think Theron's performance helps too.stip wrote:I did enjoy this, and I probably need to see it again, but this movie feels pretty overhyped. The theme of "evil men vs good women" is corny and I hope not taken too seriously (though many certainly have). Its little more than a fun hook to pin the story on. I don't get the Furiosa obsession either, but its nice to see that there are several other female characters present (not like Black Widow in a boys club), and they generally display qualities and flaws you don't often see in these movies.

Re: Movie: Mad Max - Fury Road
to be clear, I don't think character development is necessary for a movie like this either, but if you're gonna throw around best picture nods or claim that this movie is anything more than an awesome two hour car chase then it probably is

I watched this twice in the theater and now I wanna watch it again. I wonder if the Blu Ray is already out down here.

Looks like 5 October for you. Miller said on U.S. release there would be a black and white version and a silent version, but there weren't. /:theplatypus wrote:I watched this twice in the theater and now I wanna watch it again. I wonder if the Blu Ray is already out down here.

Silent version would be awesome, provided they re filmed the whole thing as an actual silent movie.E.H. Ruddock wrote:Looks like 5 October for you.
