Are Bruins in a rebuild mode under Sweeney? The d is awfully thin now.

I should have confirmed... that's a trade. A trade that just happened, not one that I made up.surfndestroy wrote:Not sure there's any need for Jones. How does Sweeney still have a job? Hopefully they can flip Jones for a 3rd rounder. May two of the first rounders for Phoenix's number 3.philpritchard wrote:I should have confirmed... that's a trade. I don't get how Lucic yields such a similar return as Hamilton.

Sweeney is basically staking his entire career as an executive on the players he drafts today.

The Bruins are paying almost half of Lucic's salary this year.numbers wrote:I don't get how Lucic yields such a similar return as Hamilton.

Re: NHL Thread
I love the fantasy of the Bruins getting McDavid out of all of is.
I would settle for St. Louis on a Brad Richards deal to run with Marchand and Bergeron (they've missed Recchi for a while) and then some other win-now veterans on short money. We all know the window is closing for Chara and the core of this team is a season away from a presidents trophy (don't confuse that statement to be a celebration, we can't all be Indianapolis). That same core also came close to earning their 2nd cup a couple years before that and did win one cup.
Lastly, I like to think the Phil Kessel trade is still looking like the best deal this team's ever made. They have a solid core. And they do develop talent. I look to that trade as a "value" move that we've grown accustomed to with the Pats.

the only move today that made any sense was the Lucic trade (though it made less sense once it came out they were eating money)...if the reports of Hamilton wanting 5.5 million are correct, they're stupid for letting him goelliseamos wrote:I love the fantasy of the Bruins getting McDavid out of all of is.

and then they give 2.75 million a year to Adam flippin McQuaid...Kevin Miller must be thrilled, he's the same player as McQuaid, just younger and less injury prone, so what will the Bruins give him? 3.25-3.5 mil a year?
I didn't think it was possible for Sweeney to be as bad of a GM as he was a player, but if today is any indication, yikes

Soderberg will probably put up 50+ points next year. He had 48 and 44 playing with stiffs in a defensive system.MattA75 wrote:"great" 3rd line center is a little strong...good little player who is very streaky...3 million a year should've been his top endsurfndestroy wrote:Soderbergh is a great 3rd line center who can fill in on the 2nd line for short stints. It took Sweeney a month to decide whether or not to keep Julien, and it took him two hours to set fire to the roster.

I know nothing about this Russian kid the Stars drafted other than his scouting report I read when they drafted him. Looks like he could be a steal at 12 though. Excited for the future building around Seguin, Benn, and Cody Eakin. Excited about acquiring Antti Niemi. Should be an upgrade at in goal. Need to upgrade the defense.

Soderberg is going to go from playing with Chris Kelly and Loui Eriksson to Gabe Landeskog and Nathan MacKinnon. He'll probably hit 50 points easily.
So glad the O'Reilly drama is over, and Sakic managed to do really well in a tough spot. Zadorov is raw but has massive potential. Grigorenko is a wild card, hopefully Roy can get something out of him. They also cleared 9M in cap space to go after some defensemen on Wednesday. If they pick up Andrej Sekera, then this offseason is a win.
O'Reilly held the organization hostage so many times, and overvalues himself every time a contract comes up. Great player, but the only time he's scored 20 goals is when he played on Matt Duchene's wing and Duchene was feeding him gimme's. He's not an 8M player like it's rumored he wants.
Really happy with drafting Rantanen at 10. Avs needed a big skilled winger to play with Duchene down the line.

It was a big couple days for the Leafs, even though they didn't move out any of the big names. They're still moving along the right path, which is more than I can say about how they've operated the last 10-15 years.

Re: NHL Thread
When did this turn into the "Boston Bruins thread"? Yeah they will now suck for a few more years, let's move on!
In all seriousness, I get the feeling they were stockpiling those 1st rounders in order to move up to #3 - which they would've used for home-grown defenseman Noah Hanifen. He would've looked great in a Bruins uniform for 15 years, but they couldn't strike a deal and Hanifen fell to the Hurricanes at #5. Instead, Hamilton will spend the next 10 years as a top-2 D in Calgary and the Bruins grabbed another D (Zboril) with their first pick.

A THIRD rounder for Rinaldo? If I were a Bruins fan, I would be terrified at the direction Sweeney is taking this team.southp wrote:More Bruins news.... they traded a 2017 pick for Zac Rinaldo.

I honestly don't even think it's real. It is legitimately looking like Sweeney is sabatoging the franchise.
