Good point. It is my least fave SP album (Zeitgest) but I still enjoy it.

I listened to "Zeitgeist" a lot during the summer of '07 -- it was and remains better than I expected it to be, and feels to me like a "logical extension" of Billy's Zwan album. I haven't really given "Oceania" or "Monuments" a fair shot, though I was not taken with the samples.

Machina is the only "true" Pumpkins album that hasn't been reissued. Haven't heard many rumblings about it. Hopefully they'll do a big box set with Machina + Machine II and other stuff from that era.

Billy has said that's the plan but legal issues are preventing him moving forward with the reissue right now (label stuff, I gather).

How could legal stuff be getting in the way at this point?

Just speculating, but: I'm assuming these reissues don't sell incredibly well, and it probably costs a pretty penny to produce them (especially the ultra-deluxe or whatever editions).

The Machina reissue is on hiatus due to label issues, but also because Billy wanted to finish the album as a Machina / Machina II mix the way he originally planned, but apparently ran into some friction somewhere. He already put a bunch of work into it.

Incidentally, some of the early Machina demos leaked last year. This guy posted 5 songs before Billy found out and lost his shit, and threatened legal action. They are:

Identify [Billy solo, a song he wrote for Natalie Imbruglia]
Glass and the Ghost Children [bluesy version]
Raindrops and Sunshowers [heavy rock version]
Home
Without You [heavy version]

It's great stuff.

First show back with Jimmy:
Cherub Rock
Bullet with Butterfly Wings
Tonight, Tonight
Ava Adore
Drum + Fife
One and All (We Are)
The Everlasting Gaze
Zero
The Crying Tree of Mercury
Mayonaise
Disarm
Landslide
1979
Run2Me
Thru the Eyes of Ruby
Stand Inside Your Love
United States
---
Today

Video isn't worth watching but sound's pretty good. Man, what a huge difference hearing the band play that song with Jimmy compared to Brad Wilk or that other kid they had on drums in recent years.

Before this last week or so, I hadn't listened to Smashing Pumpkins this much since I was in high school.

Somebody needs to put a better video of this on YouTube, but you get the idea.

Oh, and to celebrate Jimmy's return, here's a video from the first time he came back to the band, in 1999:

What's the date on that show?

I thought the BSB on 10/30 was his return... Maybe not.

Jimmy came back for the Arising! tour in April 1999. This was the last tour with the original lineup as D'arcy left the band not long after the tour ended. This tour is great; every show begins I Am One > Zero > Pug > La Dolly Vita and then transitions into 8-10 new songs, all of them mostly-complete Machina/Machina 2 tracks that sound pretty fresh minus the millions of overdubs. They did a few more new songs, "Soma" and "Geek U.S.A." during the encores.

Here's a soundboard recording from the tour that leaked last year. Sadly it's only 320k mp3 - that's all that leaked and I doubt we'll ever get a lossless version with Billy's head so far up his ass these days.

Hell yes Thru the Eyes of Ruby!!!

Hope they dust off some harder oldies like Snail, Drown, Geek USA, Where Boys Fear to Trend, Fuck You, etc.

I haven't heard are they doing encores with Manson? Hoping at least once they do the version of Eye they did at the Bridge School Benefit thing back in the day. That was incredible.
