Wasn't Ed really a child of the 60's-70's? What's this child of the 90's bullshit?

Ahhh I get it now. It sometimes takes me nearly 20 years to understand the meaning of songs.

Re: Song of the Moment: Evacuation
I feel like anybody that doesn't like the chorus to evacuation can't get past that Ed is screaming one word over and over. If you can get past that, it's some of his best screaming, the weird note he's screaming, the changing of notes mid-scream, the rhythm in the screaming, it's fuckin' awesome. The disjointed-ness of the song adds to the suspense that the verses/bridges create when leading to the alarming-ness of the choruses.
He sensed worry could be strength, with a plan he said
Time for...bana-bananana, bana-bananana
One of the best moments in their entire catalog.

Re: Song of the Moment: Evacuation
With the timing, and Jeff's "movers and shakers" quote, I always envisioned it being from the perspective of Billy Corgan right before kicking Jimmy out of the band.
They really used to jam the living fuck out of Habit live... Definitely still one of my favorite rockin' tracks in the catalogue
EDIT: I think Evac is some of Ed's worst, most uncomfortable screaming...
Ugh!

I thought most people had their signatures turned off, no? Well, whatever man. You be you. I don't know anything about anything.

Re: Song of the Moment: Evacuation
I remember when my friend Travis first listened to Binaural. He was living in Germany at the time and it came out over there before it came out in the US. So he called me while he was listening to it. He hated Breakerfall and Gods' Dice. But when Evacuation came on he said, "Oh, okay, cool. Here's something I can work with. Finally."

Re: Song of the Moment: Evacuation
How does the chorus even remotely qualify as "screaming"? There are multiple layers of Eddie, just singing and holding notes. It reminds me of the layered vocals on Police albums, especially in the outro. It's one of the coolest and most unique Pearl Jam songs vocally, musically and in terms of production technique. Most musicians WISH they could write a song that interesting.
I will admit, however, that it's no "Future Days".

Agreed wholeheartedly.theplatypus wrote:"Evacuation" is interesting in that it's abrasive as all hell but also one of their most thoughtfully composed songs. I love it.
Just a fantastic song.
This very much mirrors my experience with the song too. I stopped listening to Pearl Jam for a few years around 1999 and only started reconnecting with what they had been up to in around 2004 (bad timing, I know). When I first listened to Binaural, I found it completely impenetrable with Evacuation being the only song I felt sounded like the band I remembered; I think it reminded me kind of Last Exit in an off-kilter way.durdencommatyler wrote:I remember when my friend Travis first listened to Binaural.
