Kevin Davis wrote:The Boston and Portland versions of "Evacuation" are both great -- flub-free if memory serves. Portland may be my pick of the bunch, actually -- the song is just so well-served by that well-oiled precision so characteristic of the 2000 leg 2 shows.

There have been some pretty dreadful versions since 2000 -- Columbus 2003 has to give Philly a run for its money. Or that show from '08 where they stopped in the middle of it and played something else instead. At least in Philly they finished the song.
I went with the Boston version for my Live On 3 Legs 2000 comp - it's a bit more energetic than the Tampa version (which is also excellent). I think that Portland version was on the shortlist too :nice:

The version from Amsterdam last year was passable and easily the best in the last decade, but this song really isn't served well by drop-tuning :shake:

They are very close, but not totally flub-free. Mike always gets lost/confused somewhere. Tampa is the only version that I can say is 100% flub-free. Trust me. I tried to find another one. It probably doesn't matter though.

2 stars. Enjoy the bridge, breakdown, but the chorus is grating.

It's at the bottom of Matt's contributions to this band.

The only time they played it perfectly was Tampa 2000 - the version on TB2K. All of the other 2000 versions have various mistakes (usually by Mike). It was played so infrequently after 2000, they never came close again. The worst performance ever was probably Philly 2009 #2, which I unfortunately witnessed.
Ouch, I'm sorry you had to suffer through that. Luckily, I was at that Tampa show so I guess I got what I was looking for.
Thanks!
Uh, are you two forgetting the disaster in Washington, DC from 2008 when they attempted to play it?

Yeah, I gave it a few listens yesterday after all the discussion on the board and that's where I netted out.

Yup, likewise. The music is interesting. I like the odd timing, is there some 5/4 in there? Overall though, the song just doesn't do it for me. Having said that, I'd like them to experiment a bit more like they did with Evacuation and Cropduster. I feel like LB is just PJ trying to sound like what they think PJ should sound like. Does that make sense? Probably not. I don't know, basically I like the direction they tried with Binaural, and I feel they regressed with LB.

There is definitely a lot of familiar feeling songs on LB, especially compared to an album like binaural. But I do think songs like infallible or sleeping by myself sound like comparatively new directions. Pendulum and MFS as well

I never heard it! It sounds epic as fuck though. Time to search the interwebs for it.

Is Get Right a Matt song? If so I'd give it that label even though the song is great.

It is, but the bass line saves that song.

This is a little ironic to me, since I think "Evacuation" basically sounds like a straight-up Soundgarden song.

Maybe if it was slower and sludgier. Mechanically designed as it is, it also has a loose-limbed gallop that is rarely heard in Soundgarden's catalog.

It would fit better on a Soundgarden album for sure.

I dunno. I feel like you could swap Ed's vocals for Chris's and it would be a dead ringer for SG.

I feel this way about In The Moonlight.
