It got quite a bit of praise when it came out. Kicked off a mini-renaissance for Woody, much like Midnight in Paris.durdencommatyler wrote:Is it? I really liked Match Point, by the way. But it's nowhere near as great as Midnight in Paris. I don't know if I'd rank it above Blue Jasmine, either. I'd have to watch them both again. The performances in Blue Jasmine are definitely better.

Have you seen Crimes and Misdemeanors? MP is pretty much a shitty remake of it.durdencommatyler wrote:Woody has a mini-renaissance every other year.LoathedVermin72 wrote:It got quite a bit of praise when it came out. Re: The Woody Allen Thread
I have not. Which might explain why I liked MP so much. I'd never seen anything like that from Woody Allen. I had no idea he did anything remotely suspenseful or serious or even pseudo-erotic. Well, appropriately pseudo-erotic.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Have you seen Crimes and Misdemeanors? At the time all I'd seen by him were his really early Marx Brothers attempts.

CAM is one of his best. MP just makes it younger and sexier (and much less interesting).durdencommatyler wrote:I have not. Which might explain why I liked MP so much. I saw Match Point when it was released and recall enjoying it well enough but I hadn't seen Crimes and Misdemeanors (which is now one of my favourite films ever) at that point, nor many other Allen films. I'd be interested in watching it again at some point. Blue Jasmine's focus on moral ambiguity actually reminded me quite a lot of C&M.

Re: The Woody Allen Thread
Without having seen it, I have to say that Crimes and Misdemeanors might be the worst title for that film. I don't know what it's about, but I can't imagine anything other than a movie about fat-headed gangsters in fedoras, bumping into each other and mistakenly grabbing the wrong luggage on the over-night train to Chicago. Maybe each one gets to sing a solo. Maybe there's a dame in a red dress who's really a guy cop. Either way, there are a lot of banana peels.

If you're going to bring that mess up, don't let that be the only thing you read.

Ultimately, that I don't want to get into it. But, I think it's worth looking into more--if you're going to think about the personal lives and possible criminal activities of Woody Allen and Mia Farrow.Dev wrote:what are you trying to get at?The Argonaut wrote:If you're going to bring that mess up, don't let that be the only thing you read.

I genuinely don't believe Allen sexually abused anyone but I don't think it would really impact upon my enjoyment of his work if he had. Very flawed human beings can still make exceptional art.

Re: The Woody Allen Thread
that article is a testimony from his child that he raped her. there are not many reasons to lie about something like that. seems like people are inclined to blame the victim, especially to defend Woody Allen.

I just don't understand why Woody Allen get's a free pass on child molestation, but it seems like he does!

Watched this yesterday and though it wasn't without its occasional flaws I really enjoyed it.PryTo wrote:A few years back, Quentin Tarantino called it one of his top 20 movies of all time.BigRedLedbetter wrote:I really enjoy Anything Else.
