A billboard article with Stone from Today:

http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/ ... ames-track

The end mentions PJ stuff:

"There are no specific plans so far for any "Moonlander" shows however, Gossard shares, because he's hard at work on Pearl Jam's anticipated next album.

"We're almost done," he says. "It's sounding great. I think people are going to be excited about it. It's still crossing our Ts and dotting our I's right now and trying to get it finished, so that's the plan.""

The thing is, I'm just constantly annoyed (I won't stretch to 'disappointed' as I'm pretty used to it by now) that this band never sounds excited about their forthcoming songs anymore. "Oh yeah, we wrote this thing, it's rock, it's got a cool groove, I hope people will like it." I mean, these people have been musicians for decades. Where is the passion? WHAT WILL THE SONG BE ABOUT? WHAT ARE THIS ALBUM'S THEMES? Where do PJ see their music going, what influences them and excites them now? We never hear anything detailed about their art anymore, to the extent that I'm almost certain they're just bored of it. Do they honestly think references to punk and Pink Floyd are going to have us salivating?

To be fair, when the time comes for the album to wrap up and be done, they are probably pretty tired of it. And then they have to talk about it for months to come. I know with a lot of my projects, I'll spend 2 months on a design concept/campaign... and the days leading up to the end and the weeks after it's done, I can't fucking stand to look at it and don't even want to mention it. I loved it, I loved the results, but you get so enveloped by one thing that you just don't want to deal with it anymore. Down the road you appreciate it and like to talk about it.... but there's a period when you're just glad it's off your plate.

Yeah, I can see that and I agree. But I've been scratching my head for a long time over the fact that so many bands seem so much better at talking about their music. It's probably nothing to do with what I said, but man, sometimes I'd just like to hear something substantial. One of the things I used to love most about this band was that their albums usually had a tight, unified concept to them, particularly (for example) Vitalogy, No Code, Yield. You could talk about how those albums were composed as a complete piece of work for ever, and we have done on this site. Maybe it's retrospect that allows it; I don't know, did PJ talk about those so blandly? I'm not sure. But Vitalogy has such a bodily / grotesque / visceral / medical 'concept' to it, I can't imagine they just went 'Yeah, it's cool, I mean there's some rock and some soft stuff.'

There were less bit pieces for online music news outlets for the band to deal with in the 90's though. I really don't expect anyone in the band to go into great detail at this point, especially when the question is coming in the form of "oh by the way, could you tell us..." at the end of a short and informal interview about Stone's stuffed animal songs....

Well they're gonna start adding like 8 of the songs to setlists so now is probably not the time to be tired of the record already. I remember them being pretty pumped before the release of Backspacer, a lot more than we are hearing from them now. Maybe they are just cautious about managing people's expectations after the reception that Backspacer had?

Probably not. Backspacer didn't really have a bad reception, commercially, critically or among the fan base.

It didn't have a bad reception among the fan base? Have you read this board? Also have you checked the pit lately? They dislike Backspacer almost as much as us these days. They had a rank the albums thread recently and almost all the posters had Backspacer in the bottom 2.

Guys, we make a lot of excuses for this band.

They've all, mostly, stated that they are not sure what direction the album will be at this point. YEa, they seem to be done recording but the interchanging of 2-3 songs can really alter an albums biological make up.

Im sure more will come of it once they have a release date and the art work and various things readied up.

considering this album is most likely sitting at the fix and mix stage i imagine most of the guys in the band still don't have a full idea of what it is going to be just yet.

a few pages back someone mentioned the person to be keeping tabs on was Brendan O'Brien. anybody know what he's up to? let's go talk to him.

the band is going to be mum on this until it's in the can. They were doing the same thing the May before Backspacer was released even though we did have a bad performance of Got Some to discuss.

the word will be out in July/August is what I'm thinking.

edit: to strats point
