I tried embedding a couple of times. I can never get it to work from my iPad.
Wtf? Their Wikipedia page says they've been compared to Tool, U2, and Smashing Pumpkins. :?

I've known about this band forever -- only in the Leto capacity -- yet had never heard a song until now. This is atrocious music.
 It's definitely not for everyone.

I caught myself believing
That I needed God
And if it's out there somewhere
We sure could use hymn now

I wish Ed didn't say hymn/him here. Going from it's to hymn/him sounds weird. And kinda sexist maybe. Even if the lyrics actually read hymn, it's not what comes to mind when one hears it.

Here's something I never noticed until recently: Y'know that Hootie and the Blowfish song "Let Her Cry?" I never realized that the lyric in the first verse to that song was, "Dad's the one I love the most/But Stipe's not far behind." I don't know why that felt relevant to post here -- probably because this thread is just becoming the thread where one posts anything that will steer the dialogue away from "Lightning Bolt."

I am looking forward to reading about "My Father's Son," I may actually have something to contribute there.

It's up there. The outro of Life Wasted is one of the best, and I do also love the mini solo after the first verse in L-bolt.

It's definitely one of his most interesting, and it's pretty perfect for the song. It does a great job of conveying a fairly complicated mood

Swallowed Whole is the best since I Am Mine for my money. Unfortunately Mike wastes all that good will with the Yellow Moon solo which is easily his worst. Ruins the song for me.

when MYM first came out, I was fairly amped because I thought it might be an indication of a forthcoming rockier PJ album

and then much of what followed was Lite FM

but MYM got some great punch live, ala STBC ... just wish it wasn't such an anomaly on LB

Agreed, and with a name like Lightning Bolt, and some rocking artwork, it was all a bit misleading.

I thought folks would have learned their lesson with Riot Act.

Unfortunately due to my ex I've endured a fair bit of Thirty Seconds - even got dragged along to one of their concerts which was like attending a teenage disco......
As absurd as the Tool comparison is - Maynard did do vocals on their debut album. Not worth hunting out...

This has nothing to do with this thread really but I saw this quote from a commencement speech Toni Morrison gave and it reminded me of the conversation earlier regarding the word 'artful.' So I'm gonna post it:

"But then, I am a teller of stories and therefore an optimist, a believer in the ethical bend of the human heart, a believer in the mind’s disgust with fraud and its appetite for truth, a believer in the ferocity of beauty. So, from my point of view, which is that of a storyteller, I see your life as already artful, waiting, just waiting and ready for you to make it art." - Toni Morrison
