Jason Isbell-Something More Than Free

Post by veddar10 »

Surprised no one has made a thread for this yet. Just picked this up yesterday. Damn good album. If you liked Southeastern you should like this as well. Right up there with that. Best songs on Southeastern probably top the best ones on this album but this one seems a bit more consistent from front to back. Check it out.

Seeing him on Friday. I think initially I got turned off because for whatever reason the production on his records was really reminiscent of the clean, glossy Nashville thing on most mainstream country records. I've come around on that, though; he's just an awesome songwriter.

I saw him about a month or so ago. He killed it. He played one of the new songs but you will probably get a heavier dose. I agree about the production although this one and Southeastern are better sounding than Here We Rest or Sirens of the Ditch.

The title of this album sounds like something the keyboard player from a jam band would name an ill-fated solo record.

The studio version of dress blues sounded awful

Sirens and Here We Rest are pretty spotty. He has progressed quite a bit as a songwriter since then. More focused all around.
