Its just too bloated. There is a good story in there somewhere but theres too much going on. Too many side stories that were thrown in there for character development? Maybe? But they just detract fro the overall story.

It's taken a bit too long to get the story going and to get all the players into position but yeah I agree - it's finally coming together. I'm enjoying it now. But man what a huge, messy plot.

Last night was the best ep so far. I feel like this should have been episode 2 or 3.

I still cannot fathom how anyone let Taylor Kitsch near a camera and thought he'd be any good in this role.

Agree. I don't think he's as bad as a lot of people are saying, but he's still pretty terrible.

he's good at being stoic, but the emotional scenes are grating to watch.

That last episode was more conventional and easy to digest. The dialogue is still painful, forced and unnatural (kinda reminds me of Deadwood, but not in a good way).

Still, I agree w/ Skitch. I'll hang in there till the end. I'd give the second season a B- so far.

I cannot get some of those lounge/bar songs out of my head. Lera Lynn's voice is mesmerizing.

I loved that ending. I agree that the story is very weird and difficult to follow but that only makes it better for me. And the acting is good man...except for Taylor Kitsch. Man, he can barely be there. Its embarrassing to see him near Farrell or McAdams.

I have heard a couple people talk about how screwing with the timeline more (flashing back and forward more, kinda like chud mentioned) could have made the whole thing more interesting, but to me the story is just so bad that I don't think that would have made it more compelling. It probably would have made it even more of a mess.

I'll also mention again how much I hate Farrell in this role. I hate his fake American accent. He's no Dominic West for sure.

This season is very much in the mold of a Raymond Chandler novel with all of the heavy noir elements: multiple rippling story arcs, jumping timelines, and the crushing cynicism; but it lacks the dynamic dialogue and dark humor. My god could it use those latter two traits to glue it all together.

Yeah, I think some people forget how humourous many of those scenes between Woody and Matt were last season. That chemistry was so good. There's virtually no spark between these characters because they're just so fucking miserable all the time.

Also, the show is dabbling in so many cliches this season. Female cop with daddy issues... hippie sect complete with 60ish-year-old leader with long, grey hair... how "California" of you, Pizzolatto.
