yellow moon and especially sleeping by myself are excellent songs.

Till Ed starts warbling, croaking, and pitching all over the place. Which is immediately upon arrival.

Ed's singing on Yellow Moon is only slightly less depressing and ruinous to the music around him than Axel Rose in concert.

Mike comes in way too early. Then he has to compensate for the note not sustaining long enough and he hits it again which is so hacky. He does that shit all the time. The rest of the solo is then so bland and blah. The tone is horrible. Shrill. It had to be a first take that he planned to go back and redo but then they thought good enough or something. It ruins the song for me.

Lb and it's not even that close. It's their best since binaural and even then it's close. I'm not one to love albums unconditionally and have been bored with the bands output post binaural so I'm not fanboy at all but I don't get the vitriol towards this record. There are two bad songs and a very vanilla production but the songs are actually quite enjoyable imo.

Not that anybody cares about my take on this, but it's fun to do-

BACKBOLT / LIGHTNING BS / LIGHT SPACE / SPACER BOLT
10 tracks

1. Mind Your Manners
2. Gonna See My Friend
3. Swallowed Whole
4. Sleeping By Myself
5. Force Of Nature
6. Pendulum
7. My Father's Son
8. Got Some
9. Yellow Moon
10. The End

I'm going to listen to this right now actually.

As long as Future Days, Sirens, Just Breathe, and The Fixer are not included, almost any combination of the remaining tunes is an improvement.

Backspacer feels like a coherent record of fun, short songs. A band letting loose and enjoying themselves, and not trying to be young and angry any more. The less try-hard they are, the better. It's a great summer bbq album, which is fine with me, as there are plenty of "earphones" albums or "driving at night" or "angry young man" albums in their catalogue - one with a bit of fun is great, thanks.

Lightning bolt is all too polished for me. It's got good songs, but it doesn't hang together as an album. The only songs i find myself coming back to are Getaway and MYM. Pendulum is good, but overrated. Future days is pretty, but not a patch on The End. It's all inoffensive.

Backspacer wins easy for me.
