Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

I hope you do. I was a little worried going into this album, mostly because I'm not the biggest fan of Semantics, and was worried it was all going to sound like the most recent Jenny Lewis album. I was wrong. The songwriting is strong, her voice is as powerful as ever, and the aesthetic is gorgeous. The production is layered and lends itself to repeat listens.

Glad to hear "Semantics" is among the lesser moments
-- I didn't want to be a party-poop when it dropped but I was kind of disappointed by it (not that it was bad per se, they've just set an impeccably high standard with their first two albums).

Semantics reminded me of the 80s BMX movie 'RAD' for some reason. So, needless to say, I adored it instantly.

I'm waiting for the album, but based on what you've heard how likely am I to enjoy this?

I imagine you'll find quite bit to like in the lyrics. Especially in songs like Velveteen and Omaha. But overall, I think it will be your least favorite of their albums. It's very ambient and layered. There's a lot of synth sounds and much of the song-scape is centered around a Casio.

Laura sounds as good as ever, though. And there's a lot to digest. It's a much more dense record than the last two. Nothing about it breezes.

Say what you want about the sound of this one, but I love what it says about her as a musician. She pretty much said over the last few years "I'm going to make my next record a makeout album centered around a casio keyboard" and then she went out and did it, without sacrificing craft for novelty. I love that.

"Dense and layered with Casio keyboards" makes me think of Beach House -- sounds delightful.

Pretty excited to listen to this. I think I missed out on the early streaming of it. I will wait until August 7th.

We all do, friend. The important thing is that we learn something from them.
