Either way, this move doesn't really make them better. They have no problem scoring runs. Their differential is like +95 and they're a .500 team.

You can improve your team by scoring more and by preventing runs. The Jays improved their offense by quite a bit. They improved their defense by quite a bit. They did so without increasing payroll. Hoffman is a really good prospect who I didn't want the Jays to trade, but I'm ok with this. Castro and Tinoco are both solid but unspectacular prospects. The Jays have tons of guys like them.

I wish I could remember where, but Zips projection system has Tulowitzki providing $40 million additional value beyond his contract, while Reyes projects for -$20 million. So there's a difference of $60M between the players. That's worth giving up some good prospects for.

Jose Reyes has been solid but underwhelming in Toronto. Troy Tulowitzki is a much, much better player.

I dont know enough about Toronto's system to answer this, but if this trade leaves them without the pieces needed to get a starter, it's a puzzling move. I do love upgrading from Reyes to Tulo, though. They might have the best infield in baseball now.

They have a really deep system, and they still have Norris, Pompey and Alford (all three have found themselves on league-wide top 50 lists the last year) as the really high-end guys who could be the centerpieces of a deal.

I don't even think they need to target the top-of-the-rotation guys out there. With this offense, they really just need starters who aren't going to completely blow it every game. A mid-rotation type is fine.

Lets make a deal and swap bad contract for bad contract. Choo for Porcello? I'd trade Choo and a prospect or two for Ramirez but I doubt that would happen.

Choo for Ramirez makes a lot of sense on a lot of levels.

I think Porcello will be fine the next few years. Maybe not worth what he is getting paid but still a solid starter. I bet you guys go after Cueto, Price or Zimmerman. Greinke if he opts out.
