Ive used similar ones before and they made my ears sweat too much :\ The clips dont really clip on the ears tight enough either.... but I kind of have the same problem with most headphones whilst running. can i just get a chip planted into my brain ?turned2black wrote:I have a Garmin 110 that I use on occasion. i use the nike+ app on my nano, which tracks mileage, pace, etc. it is fairly accurate. It uploads to a website and you can track activity. I like it pretty well.

Anton Krupicka just ran a sub-7 hour double crossing of the Grand Canyon. He missed the record by about 6 minutes.

In ear is the way to go for running imo. I have trouble with the earbuds getting sweaty and falling out in the summer though. The headgear I wear in colder temps takes care of that problem however.BDB wrote:i love these for running:Strat wrote:Ive used similar ones before and they made my ears sweat too much :\ The clips dont really clip on the ears tight enough either.... but I kind of have the same problem with most headphones whilst running. can i just get a chip planted into my brain ?turned2black wrote:I have a Garmin 110 that I use on occasion. A lot of my running friends swear by these: http://yurbuds.com/
But I can not wear in-ear or ear bud headphones while running. They ALWAYS fall out.

I had a pair of Motorola bluetooth that worked awesome for three months. I think my sweat shorted them out.

14 miles in 1:54 with ~2,500 feet in elevation gain
Hit the road up to the TV towers at South Mountain in PHX. Did the uphill in 62. There was some kind of bike race going on, so I didn't have to deal with cars. Felt surprisingly good the entire way. On the down hill, a woman emerged from one of the side trails, ran up next to me and asked if she could run with me. I said sure and we blasted down together. I was surprised that she stuck with me the entire way. Downhill in 52.
When we finished we did a really awkward fist bump and started talking. She's 55! And it came as no surprise that she wins many age-group awards. We actually exchange numbers and may meet-up for a run later. She's pretty damn inspirational. Nice run.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
First workout in a week! I skipped the treadmill and of course my weights were way down but it felt great just to be back at the gym again.
Next day postscript: Actually feeling a little soreness in my upper body. Definitely the good kind of sore though!

I went on a little mile run Saturday morning before my jaunt up the TV towers road in PHX. No fucking way are these enough shoe for me. The limits of minimalism have been found. These are going back to Zappos.turned2black wrote:Just got these. My commitment to minimalism is gonna be tested. They are really just hospital slippers with thicker tread.turned2black wrote:My "A" shoes (NB 1600s) now have 700+ miles on them. I was gonna buy another pair of 1600s, but went with a pair of NB Minimus HI-REZ instead. They should pair well with my "B" shoes (GoRuns) and I'll finally be sock-free.
These are just 4 oz. These will have to do until I can save up enough money to have Vibram foot pods surgically implant into the soles of my feet.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
Decided to work on some PRs this summer instead of taking 3 months off like I normally do. My winter was fairly inactive by my standards (no races or near-death desert runs) and I can't really afford to put on any more weight.
Breaking my 10-mile PR (62 minutes) is at the top of my list, followed by my 7.5 mile route on a cross-country ski course in Door County. It would be nice to come out of the summer in good shape for my Boston Marathon training.

10 miles in 69 minutes
My assault on my 10-mile PR didn't start out great. I never ate lunch and hit the treadmill underfueled. Set it to just under 7-minute miles and went. Never felt terrible, but never really felt good enough to kick it up either. Tiny sprint finish. Meh.

Decent workout tonight. Going to take a little while to get my weights back like they were. I was doing so good before I got sick

Re: The Work-Out Thread
'Sup guys. Been a minute, work has kept me really busy. Anyways I've been hitting the weights with a renewed fervor and have been pedaling a lot. I actually got a day off! and went for a 16-17 mile ride that I managed to squeeze out in 48 minutes. Lots of long hills, both up and down and plenty of flat terrain. All paved. Felt good when I was done. Got to throw the football with my brother afterwards. I've dropped 6 lbs in the past two weeks and feel stronger.
Less judgement, more curiosity.

It could be Iliotibial band syndrome, which can be treated. I have friends that say a compression wrap and a foam roller before and after exercising works wonders.Charlie wrote:i get this often. to where running daily or a few times a week is out of the question. its fine during, and even afterwards. but the next day is a different fucking story.BDB wrote:god damn outer/lower knee pain after a 5.5 mi run yesterday. i can barely walk. god damn it.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
and yoga! Strengthen the core and quads, takes pressure off the knees and IT band area....
I had a cocky surgeon that pushed me into surgery for that shit. Sure, it took care of the problem and was running again within 4 weeks but I ended up with major patalea syndrome. Worst ever. IT band can be really brutal but it is very very treatable with proper stretching, strengthening and arch support.
I did rehab on it for about 5 months before i got tired of not being able to ski and run etc.... so my surgeon jumped on that and pushed me into surgery. I have learned so much since then and I would have done it way differently.

Yes, overbuilt shoes that contort your legs and knees into unnatural positions are always a good idea.Strat wrote:and yoga! Strengthen the core and quads, takes pressure off the knees and IT band area....
