The Yanks will probably make something happen today. CC is useless, Pineda's out for awhile, and Nova is very sketchy.

Don't think they'll get a starter now with Leake already gone. Probably just get Kimbrel.

Well, first, I think it's foolish for them to be in the market for starting pitching at the deadline when they are in last place. Why would you shop when prices are at their highest point and it's irrelevant to this season whether you get any starting pitching or not.

Secondly, it's a sign that they are still going with this ridiculous "find the next future ace that isnt an ace yet" strategy that worked so swimmingly with Porcello.

Ross could be a fucking steal the next two years though under team control. Has the stuff to succeed in the AL. Lots of swing and miss stuff and keeps the ball down. His is wild sometimes but that could be a mechanical thing with the right pitching coach. I'd love to see what the Rangers/Mike Maddux could do with him. I see what you are saying. From the sounds of it SD is hell bent on trading him. Which they probably should be because they are not going anywhere. I don't think it will take a mother load to get him.

I kind of disagree on this one. I think the cost will be huge for Ross.

As far as the Ross/Porcello comparison, my concern with that is that if a team really believes in a strategy (like, for example, finding undervalued pitchers and having them develop into more) then I don't think it's a smart move to change course based on one or two examples of that strategy backfiring.

To me, the issue with Porcello isn't that they acquired him hoping he would break out, it's that they gave him an extension as if he already had. Ross still has two more years of arbitration, so they don't have to worry about the money issue with him just yet.

I would rather they wait until the offseason and assess things from there. Like I said I think it's foolish to acquire Ross when his price would be at its highest premium.

Olney is reporting the possibility of a Cubs/Padres/Red Sox blockbuster, if that's true I bet it involves the Red Sox dumping Panda or Hanley.

To me, Tyson Ross screams disaster waiting to happen in the AL. Until this year, he's never pitched well outside of San Diego.

i doubt it's the cubs taking either of those players on. the last thing they need is another infielder. and hanley is an absolute disaster in the OF.

He's one of the most extreme ground ball pitchers in the league. I'm not sure how much the home park plays into that.

All I know is he has a career 2.92 era at home and a 4.24 on the road. But to be fair, those numbers are reversed if you just look at this season.

My theory was the Padres take on Sandoval and prospects, the Cubs get Ross, and the Red Sox send prospects and some money out. Or something like that.
