Agreed. Double edged sword right there. My buddy who is a Tigers fan hates Dave Dombrowski with a passion. I guess I don't follow you guys enough to know his track record.@SkitchP wrote:2 more pitching prospects for Cespedes. 6 of the Top 15 prospects in the Tigers system have been acquired in the past day and a half. Which is awesome, but also very damning about where the system was at.

Right. A lot of truth to that. Again, don't follow you guys enough to know. Didn't take over like 2003ish when you guys were really bad and put the 2006 team together?@SkitchP wrote:BigRedLedbetter wrote:Agreed. Double edged sword right there. JaCoby Jones. From what a couple scouts I have talked to that I know from twitter, he has Trout level top end talent. They see a hitch in his swing that should be pretty easy to correct, then the sky is the limit.

From 1991-1995 Tony Gwynn struck out looking 20 times. Mike Trout has done that 22 times this season.

I remember seeing last year that Trout had passed Joe DiMaggio in career strikeouts.BigRedLedbetter wrote:From 1991-1995 Tony Gwynn struck out looking 20 times. Mike Trout has done that 22 times this season.

One of my favorite stats of all time is Joe D's strikeouts and home runs. He had 361 homers and 369 strikeouts. Just incredible to me.numbers wrote:I remember seeing last year that Trout had passed Joe DiMaggio in career strikeouts.BigRedLedbetter wrote:From 1991-1995 Tony Gwynn struck out looking 20 times. It's amazing that the Jays still have so many good young players, both in the minors and on the major league roster, after all this activity.

Re: MLB
I can't figure out why they did. They started the second half going 1-5 against Kansas City and St. Louis, and and then going 7-1 against Cleveland and Boston and came out right around .500 on the other side. If that doesn't scream out "We're mediocre!" I don't know what does. This 19 game stretch against the Yankees, Rays, Royals, Angels, and Cubs will kill them.

There always the '76 throwback jerseys day. I'll be honest - I actually liked those collar shirts from that season.Lament wrote:I can't figure out why they did. Re: MLB
A lot of people don't realize the 76 jerseys were in a lot of ways the first throwback jerseys ever (though ironically it's the 1990 White Sox who are credited with giving birth to the concept when they held the first Turn Back the Clock Day). Bill Veeck was going through an old closet in Comiskey Park and found a pennant from around the very first few years of the club that had "SOX" written in the font they ended up using on their hats. He was so enamored with it that he decided he wanted it in their identity, and he resurrected their away uniforms from the 1900's to pair with it.
As soon as Reinsdorf and Einhorn bought the team, they took his beloved font and tried to put it in a futuristic setting (giving birth to the 1983 throwbacks they wear on Sundays now, though they technically started in 1982).
I actually think the 1976 jerseys are very close to being awesome. An all-white version with the navy exchanged for black lined in silver (or even red, like the classic Go Go Sox teams) would make for an amazing Sunday alternate.
