McDonald/Lawler was one of the bloodiest fights I've seen in quite some time.

Mendes had that fight won. Can't believe he still walked out the loser.

**UFC 189 provided one of the best main cards in promotional history and for business purposes of what this card generated and the bigger business the main event outcome will provide, it was the most lucrative. The pay-per-view is going to be huge and likely well exceed early predictions. The main event with Conor McGregor and Chad Mendes had a presentation unlike any other in Zuffa history with Sinead O’Connor and Aaron Lewis performing the entrance songs for McGregor and Mendes respectively amongst a sea of Irish flags and an electric atmosphere serving as the backdrop for this fight.

McGregor was tested in this fight and Mendes had more success against the Irish than any of his previous opponents in the UFC. Mendes was able to land four takedowns throughout the fight but McGregor defended off his back, the closing sequence featured Mendes in control on top and landing a steady diet of elbows, when he transitioned and went for a guillotine and McGregor had an opening and got to his feet. McGregor proceeded with the right jab and left hook combination that put Mendes down on the mat and finished him with strikes with only three seconds remaining in the second round. This was the perfect outcome as it sets up one of the biggest fights in UFC history with the Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor fight later this year or early 2016. It would be the perfect main event for UFC 200 but waiting a year is a lot to ask but if another injury occurs or there is some delay, it’s not out of the realm of possibility and Dana White said current plans are for the fight to take place in Las Vegas.

Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald had a classic fight with Lawler stopping MacDonald at the 1:00 mark of the fifth round. This was a war and the balance of the fight shifted back-and-forth with Lawler letting his hands go in the second and bludgeoning the face of MacDonald. The striking of Lawler persisted in the third round until a head kick from MacDonald, rocked the champion and he followed with strikes and nearly finished Lawler when the buzzer ended in the third round. MacDonald already had a broken nose and foot by this point and Lawler connected with a straight shot to the nose and shattered it with MacDonald grabbing the nose and covering up on the mat as John McCarthy stopped the bout.

It will be a tall order to beat this show for MMA card of the year as it is head and shoulders above any other show so far.

Ronda Rousey wins Best Fighter at ESPYs, takes shot at Floyd Mayweather

**Tonight the UFC presents a live Fight Night card from San Diego, California and is their third of four shows this week with another this Saturday from Scotland. Below is the full card for tonight’s show:

MAIN CARD (10pm ET on FS 1, TSN4 in Canada)
*Frank Mir vs. Todd Duffee
*Tony Ferguson vs. Josh Thomson
*Marion Reneau vs. Holly Holm
*Manny Gamburyan vs. Scott Jorgensen
*Kevin Lee vs. James Moontasri
*Alan Jouban vs. Matt Dwyer

PRELIMINARY CARD (8pm ET on FS 1, Fight Network in Canada)
*Sam Sicilia vs. Yaotzin Meza
*Jessica Andrade vs. Sarah Moras
*Rani Yahya vs. Masanori Kanehara
*Igor Araujo vs. Sean Strickland

FIGHT PASS CARD (7pm ET)
*Kevin Casey vs. Ildemar Alcantara
*Lyman Good vs. Andrew Craig

**Chad Mendes found out on Monday that he broke his right thumb in the first round of the fight with Conor McGregor this past Saturday night.

**Rory MacDonald not only suffered a broken nose and foot during the bout with Robbie Lawler at UFC 189 but has now been medically suspended until 2016. Realistically, MacDonald should probably take a year off from that fight because of the damage he took and the long-term effect it could have.

**Mike Ricci is off of this Saturday’s Titan FC card in Kansas City, where he set to headline the card against Pat Healy. Ariel Helwani reported that Ricci suffered an injury to the ligaments in his right hand and had to pull out of the fight. Marcus Edwards is stepping on short notice to take the spot of Ricci on the card, which is Titan FC’s debut card on UFC Fight Pass.

**Jenna Jameson is suing former boyfriend, Tito Ortiz, alleging that the Bellator fighter has not honored an agreement they entered into for a Southern California home that Jameson states in his both of their names. Jameson is stating in the lawsuit that she contributed the majority of the down payment and placed Ortiz’s name on the title of the home with the agreement they would share 50% of the financial interests in the home.

**The Union MMA website out of Russia spoke with Fedor Emelianenko, who confirmed that he is preparing for a return to fighting and is open to offers. We spoke about this on The LAW this past Sunday with Dave Meltzer, who first reported this news on his own show on Saturday night. Emelianenko is 38-years old (and will turn 39 this September) and has not fought since June 2012. Depending on where he goes, his return fight could garner a lot of interest but the ultimate question will be how much a UFC or Bellator is willing to offer him to fight and how much they can make back. Fedor coming to the UFC and finally fighting will still work for the first fight and then it is contingent on how well he performs. His optimal weight class is light heavyweight and him hanging with the elite of the UFC’s heavyweight division. could prove difficult. Bellator would provide much less competition but they have a harder time making the investment worthwhile because they have no plans for pay-per-view under the current model.

**Bellator has announced a card for Friday August 28th with Melvin Guillard making his promotional debut against Brandon Girtz in Temecula, California.

**Bellator is also back this Friday with a show in Uncasville, Connecticut, headlined by a welterweight title fight between Douglas Lima and Andrey Koreshkov. This week’s show will also feature the debut of new commentator, Sean Grande on Spike TV. Grande will also be a guest on The MMA Report this week to chat about his new role with the promotion.

**Here are the results from the UFC’s debut in Scotland with a show at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow and their fourth card in a week, with 10,451 and a gate of $1,500,000:
*Daniel Omielanczuk over Chris de la Rocha by TKO at 0:48 of Round 1
*Jimmie Rivera over Marcus Brimage by TKO at 1:29 of Round 1
*Robert Whiteford over Paul Redmond by KO at 3:04 of Round 1
*Mickael Lebout over Teemu Packalen by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
*Ilir Latifi over Hans Stringer by KO at 0:56 of Round 1
*Paddy Holohan over Vaughan Lee by unanimous decision (30-27 all)
*Steven Ray over Leonardo Mafra by TKO at 2:30 of Round 1
*Leon Edwards over Pawel Pawlak by unanimous decision (30-27 all)
*Joanne Calderwood over Cortney Casey-Sanchez by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
*Joseph Duffy over Ivan Jorge by triangle choke at 3:05 of Round 1
*Evan Dunham over Ross Pearson by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
*Michael Bisping over Thales Leites by split decision (49-46, 47-48, 48-47)

**The fight of the night bonus went to Joanne Calderwood and Cortney Casey-Sanchez and the performance bonuses went to Joseph Duffy and Steven Ray, all for $50,000.

**They couldn’t have asked for better outcomes for the three Scottish fighters on the show in Calderwood, Whiteford and Ray. Calderwood overcame a tough opening round where Casey-Sanchez swarmed her with strikes immediately but Calderwood recovered, took her two and won the second and third rounds. The main event was very close with the only definitive round being the third for Leites.

**Below are the main card results from Friday night’s Bellator 140 show in Uncasville, Connecticut at the Mohegan Sun Arena and airing on Spike TV:
*Michael Page over Rudy Bears by KO at 1:05 of Round 1 – if you watch nothing else from this card, you have to see the striking of Page because it is unlike anyone in MMA and has been strategically matched with fighters where his style has been effective so far but he’s so entertaining to watch
*Chris Honeycutt and Paul Bradley fought to a no contest – they had an accidental clash of heads and there was a big cut on Bradley’s head and the doctor ruled he couldn’t continue
*Brennan Ward over Roger Carroll by KO at 2:06 of Round 1 – John McCarthy dove in so hard and saved Carroll losing extra brain cells at the end of the fight
*Paul Daley over Dennis Olson by TKO at 1:12 of Round 2 – a showcase for Daley and he called out Josh Koscheck after the fight, who was seated in the front row but didn’t bring him into the cage and that’s clearly the direction they are going
*Andrey Koreshkov over Douglas Lima by unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 48-47) to win the light heavyweight title – not a great fight and the only round you could argue for Lima was the final round, a far cry from last weekend’s welterweight title fight

**TMZ Sports was first the report that Nick Diaz has struck a plea deal on a series of DUI charges and will result in Diaz spending one-day in jail. Diaz was charged with two DUIs over the course of a year with the first charge coming in November 2013 and the second in September 2014. Diaz pleaded no contest to one charge of DUI with an alcohol or drug level above a .08 level (and in exchange three additional charges, including the second DUI were thrown out) and accepted a two-day sentence with a one-day credit for time already served. Diaz last fought in January of this past year at UFC 183 against Anderson Silva and failed his post-fight drug test with marijuana metabolites found in his system and is awaiting punishment from the Nevada Athletic Commission when his hearing takes place.

**Below is the UFC Road to the Octagon special for this Saturday’s card in Chicago, featuring T.J. Dillashaw vs. Renan Barao for the bantamweight title, Miesha Tate taking on Jessica Eye and a lightweight bout between Paul Felder and Edson Barboza:

**The UFC has announced a lightweight bout between Olivier Aubin-Mercier and Chris Wade for the August 23rd Fight Night card in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Wade is unbeaten since debuting in the UFC a year ago and takes on Aubin-Mercier, who fought on TUF Nations and has won his last two fights in the UFC.

**Kevin Iole at Yahoo Sports is reporting that the UFC is considering an alternate venue and city for the Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor fight. Last week, Lorenzo Fertitta spoke to ESPN and indicated that the two dates they were looking at were December 5th and January 2nd, with Dana White noting the fight would take place in Las Vegas. The UFC would want to book the larger MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas but December 5th is booked with an Andrea Bocelli concert and now they are considering running AT&T Stadium in Dallas for the featherweight fight. The stadium has been discussed by the UFC for a number of years with Dana White stating they needed the right fight to run the venue. There are a number of obstacles between now and December with both fighters needing to stay healthy (Jose Aldo has indicated he is two-weeks away from training again) and another aspect is the IV ban, which is effective October 1st and is going to have a big impact on fighters that cut a lot of weight and that would include both Aldo and McGregor.

**Here are the results from the UFC on FOX 16 card on Saturday night in front of a crowd of 11,663 at the United Center in Chicago and a gate of $1,200,000:
*Zak Cummings over Dominique Steele by TKO at 0:43 of Round 1
*Elizabeth Phillips over Jessamyn Duke by unanimous decision (29-28 all)
*Andrew Holbrook over Ramsey Nijem by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) – tough to justify a winning score for Holbrook, I had the fight 30-27 for Nijem.
*James Krause over Daron Cruickshank by rear-naked choke at 1:27 of Round 1
*Bryan Caraway over Eddie Wineland by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
*Ben Saunders over Kenny Robertson by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
*Jim Miller over Danny Castillo by split decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28)
*Tom Lawlor over Gian Villante by KO at 0:27 of Round 1 – Lawlor was getting lit up with leg kicks throughout the first round and then the second began and Villante charged into a right hook from Lawlor and was rocked and the fight was stopped.
*Joe Lauzon over Takanori Gomi by TKO at 2:37 of Round 1 – Lauzon got lucky in the sense, he had flattened Gomi out and delivering strikes to the head and thought Gomi was out and just got up and walked off before Herb Dean has stopped the fight but Dean did agree Gomi was done.
*Edson Barboza over Paul Felder by unanimous decision (29-28 all) – this was a great fight involving two excellent stand up fighters with Barboza more quick and landed kick after kick to the body but Felder was very tough.
*Miesha Tate over Jessica Eye by unanimous decision (30-27 all) – Not all that different from the Joanne Calderwood vs. Cortney Casey-Sanchez fight in Scotland last weekend, where Tate was getting hit with a lot of strikes early but came back with a big left jab and then dropped Eye with a right hook and won the round and the subsequent two rounds with her striking and wrestling.
*T.J. Dillashaw over Renan Barao by TKO at 0:35 of Round 5 to retain the bantamweight title – Dillashaw was on another level when it came to speed and footwork and outclassed a quality fighter in Barao. Barao did land his share of strikes but he never came close to winning a round and was tired by the third.

**The Fight of the Night bonus went to Edson Barboza and Paul Felder while the performance bonuses went to T.J. Dillashaw and Tom Lawlor, all for $50,000.

**HBO’s Real Sports recently ran a segment about domestic violence cases amongst mixed martial arts fighters. I have yet to see the entire segment but it is getting a lot of attention. Christy Mack was interviewed for the piece and outlined the night that Jon “War Machine” Koppenhaver attacked her last year, then a discussion on the topic and interviews with Christy Mack and Jason “Mayhem” Miller:

**Ariel Helwani has a lengthy 45-minute sit down interview with CM Punk discussing his first seven-months training at Roufusport, moving to Milwaukee, AJ Lee leaving the WWE, criticism of Punk being signed by the UFC and the story of how the UFC convinced him to fight:

**UFC president Dana White confirmed that Miesha Tate would be the next in line for a bantamweight title shot, against the winner of Ronda Rousey vs. Bethe Correia. Tate has won four straight since her last fight with Rousey, which was in December 2013, and has defeated Liz Carmouche, Rin Nakai, Sara McMann and Jessica Eye.

**Next Saturday’s UFC 190 pay-per-view will feature a seven-fight main card, beginning at 10pm ET as they have added the TUF Brazil finals onto the main card and is going to make for a very late night, once you include the press conference with the two added fights.

**Karyn Bryant interviews UFC president Dana White and asks him about the Jacob “Stitch” Duran situation from this past week, resulting in Duran no longer be hired by the company:

**Joseph Duffy appeared on TV3 in Ireland and has confirmed that he will headline the UFC’s return to Dublin, Ireland against Dustin Poirier this fall. Duffy debuted for the UFC earlier this year and has been promoted constantly as the last fighter to defeat Conor McGregor (for the Cage Warriors promotion in 2010) and has defeated Jake Lindsey and Ivan Jorge in the UFC. Poirier has won his last two fights since coming back to the lightweight division.

**The Nevada Athletic Commission has put a stop to Thiago Silva being able to fight this weekend for World Series of Fighting and has led to a late change to the main card in Las Vegas. Clifford Starks will be taking the spot of Silva on less than one week’s notice and will fight Mike Kyle. The NAC ruled Silva was not eligible to fight, stemming from a 2011 drug test failure where Silva submitted non-human urine after his win over Brandon Vera at UFC 125 and it was changed to a no contest.

**Zuffa LLC is suing Wanderlei Silva for “intentional misconduct” and are citing defamation and disparaging their business. Silva recently wrote that he has proof that the promotion had fixed fights, among other criticisms he has had of the promotion since their falling out. The lawsuit can be read at https://canadianmmalawblog.files.wordpr ... mation.pdf.

Bethe was also an undefeated fighter, until tonight, so she was no slouch. But Rhonda has done a great job of clearing out the division. She's really unbeatable at this point.

Yeah, she's no fake champion like Laila Ali. She'll take on anybody.

At this point, she's the best female "fighter" since Ann Wolfe.

It's pretty interesting how Dana White claimed women would "never" fight in the world's biggest mma organization in 2011, and 4 years later Ronda Rousey is arguably the most popular fighter and biggest name in the UFC.
