A master artisan like Kanye could probably find the right context for any of 'em.verb_to_trust wrote:What pearl jam song could kanye sample?

Coming at it from the opposite side as someone who totally loves hip-hop, Kanye just isn't as interesting as guys like El-P, Kendrick and Danny Brown, for me at least. I like his music but it doesn't have the depth of some other rappers. I still just don't get why he's the one people write 1,000 word essays on. Has always baffled me a little.

Him being accessible to the OB section of a Pearl Jam message board really says it all. I like Kanye just fine but there is certainly a naivety amongst a particular demographic of his fans.

The fact that 98% of the people in the OB section of a Pearl Jam message board "hate" or "don't get" him really says it all.verb_to_trust wrote:Him being accessible to the OB section of a Pearl Jam message board really says it all.

LV, are you a fan of Gifted, his track with Lykke Li and Santigold?

It's hard to say. I honestly can't tell if most of the people who make anti-Kanye posts have even heard any of his music.

I went on a date with this girl about a month and a half ago who told me the only rappers she likes are Eminem and Macklemore because they're the only rappers who "talk about real life." When I mentioned Kanye she said "I can't listen to him. All of his songs are about shooting people and being in gangs and beating up women."

Be real here: do you possess some depth of life experience that affords you some greater insight into this, or is this just another instance of a dorky white guy on the internet telling other dorky white guys on the internet that they're too dorky and white to understand black music?

Nevermind then -- you're basically a rapper yourself! I defer going forward.verb_to_trust wrote:I've spent a lot of time around black people

Do you ever do weddings? The mrs. and I would love to come dance our asses off at a Matt Lament reception.Lament wrote:Monster was the other Kanye song played at my sister's wedding. Of course, then we wouldn't get to dance with you. Nor would we have an invitation... I didn't think this through.

I get asked to do weddings a few times a year, but I always turn it down. I dunno, it just seems like it isn't worth the hassle.
Dancing your ass off at a Matt Lament club night is way better.
