I still don't know what this season was about. A real waste.

Season 1 didn't explain the political corruption either.

Re: HBO Television Show: True Detective
So I just started second season. Should I continue? Keep in mind, one of the later episodes of season 1 I find to be possibly the greatest episode of any show on TV ever, and this is coming from a Homicide: Life on the Streets fan.

Give the writer two years to write the next season and some writing consultants.

Loving season one says nothing about how one will feel about season two. All it will do is trick you into wasting eight hours.

You know what I'm angriest about? How excited I am for a season 3.

They're not going to have the level of celebrity actor that they've had the last two years, but it's HBO so you can still expect quality. I think the key will be adding more writers.

There was something oddly satisfying about how terrible this was.

Re: HBO Television Show: True Detective
Two things I really liked about the finale: (1) When Velcoro arrived at the train station in the cowboy hat, trying to keep a low profile. There was something about this setting that was alive in a way that most of the scenes in this season were not. This season seemed to want to focus on characters who were "lost in the world," but they didn't actually go out into the world very often; in this scene, despite everything that was going on with Ray (his face was on the TV, for chrissakes!), the setting had the hustle and bustle of an actual lived-in place, and he was able to get lost in the crowd. The shootout felt organic and real and like it had weight, unlike the big shootout earlier in the season, where everything felt manufactured. And (2), despite the fact that Ray's fate has been telegraphed for a while, I did like the setting of the shootout amongst the redwoods. It was maze-like and believable at the same time (i.e., with redwoods you've got trees that can actually be used as cover!). I'm also glad it was shot during the daylight after so much forced gloom during the season, as it gave it a nice contrast, but not as blindingly in-your-face as Frank's death scene.
I liked those scenes so much that I have a feeling the script said, "Velcoro enters a train station and has a conversation," and, "Velcoro runs through the woods, shoots some guys," and it was the director/production designer that brought it to the next level.

Wow, that "You can't act for shit" line is going to haunt Vince Vaughn's dreams for years.

I would doubt this. By all reports Pizzolatto was heavily involved in every aspect of the show.Simple Torture wrote:I liked those scenes so much that I have a feeling the script said, "Velcoro enters a train station and has a conversation," and, "Velcoro runs through the woods, shoots some guys," and it was the director/production designer that brought it to the next level.
