This being a national park, what sort of tools would he be allowed to carry to mitigate the risk of bear attack?

I dont know. Maybe this needs its own thread

http://universalfreepress.com/sheriff-d ... -back-off/

I dont get this. The only time i hear this sort of narrative that nobody takes responsibility for their actions, blames other people, wants hand outs, makes excuses, yadda yadda...is on Fox News. I do not hear this narrative actually coming form the democratic party other than the fact they generally support social programs. Where the fuck does this shit come from and why is this asshat commenting on this? Am i missing something? I very well could be because we all hear what we want to hear....so....help me out RM.

"He says they should be demonstrating against poverty having become generational and a lifestyle under Obama due to people becoming hooked on handouts"

Right, because poverty in black communities is a new fucking thing since Obama took office. Why does the right not look at the big picture? Really? Can anybody really pull themselves up by their boot straps and make any life they want for themselves?

He also describes the Obama complicity in America’s horrendous education system that black children are shackled to while Hussein Obama sends his kids to the exclusive Sidwell Friends elite academy.
This entertained me, if only because few presidents in my lifetime could be better summed up on education as "just sort of left it how they found it."

I mean...I guess it is horrendous...but almost all of what is most wrong with Anerican education was introduced by politicians, and that in the 1980-2005 period.

Facebook hits milestone: 1B people in one day

It's official: Facebook is truly a social media giant.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg took to the social platform Thursday to inform the world of a new record for the site. "For the first time ever, one billion people used Facebook in a single day," Zuckerberg said. On Monday, one in seven of the people on Earth used Facebook.

This American Life just did a 2-part episode centered around the only thing that has ever closed the achievement gap between white middle-class students and students of color living in poverty: desegregation. It was eye-opening.

I heard part of it. Did they mention if white middle class students had a decrease in performance? That would help close the achievement gap, after all.

I'd have to check their numbers again, but they implied that it didn't. Of couse, this only worked for the percentage of students that were bussed to the suburbs--the ones that stayed in the inner cities continued to perform poorly overall.

It doesn't when the desegregated student population starts in elementary and works it's way up. If you place a bunch of shut down behind-the-curve gang members in a well performing school, they are often mostly a disruption.

The trick with that is, a lot of gangs are segregated by location in big cities. When places have tried using bussing to desegregate the schools, they end up with rival gangs sharing rooms and it gets explosive.

I'm pretty sure on the previous board I had a lengthy "America's education problem is actually an inequity problem," post, which has more.

Europe...why don't you just ban the fucking, uh, truck?
E.H. Ruddock wrote:http://www.cnn.com/2015/08/28/europe/migrant-crisis/index.html
Dozens of refugees -- most likely fleeing war-ravaged Syria -- probably suffocated inside a truck abandoned on an Austrian highway, authorities said Friday.

Sixty of the 71 victims were men. Eight women died, as did three children, ages 2, 3 and 8.

"We are talking about human trafficking, homicide, even murder," said Johann Fuchs, state prosecutor of Eisenstadt.

News of the deaths comes as Europe is struggling to deal with a record swell of migrants and refugees traveling by land and sea to find a better life or escape conflict at home in the Middle East and Africa.

United Nations officials have called on European officials to improve their efforts to resolve the growing humanitarian crisis, including dealing with human traffickers preying on refugees of the sort thought to be responsible for the deaths in Austria.

The truck was found Thursday, abandoned on the side of the A4 highway, which links Budapest in Hungary to the Austrian capital, Vienna. When police opened it, they found the bodies decomposing in the heat.

They found a Syrian travel document inside the truck.

"We must assume now that these are refugees," said Hans Peter Doskozil, police director of Austria's Burgenland region. "In concrete terms, it is possible this is a Syrian refugee group."

Hungarian police said Friday they had arrested three Bulgarian citizens and an Afghan citizen in connection with the truck.

"We are likely looking at a Bulgarian-Hungarian people smuggling ring," Fuchs said.

About 3,000 trucks pass through that area of the highway daily, and checking each one of them is almost impossible, authorities said. Most human smugglers use smaller cars, making the use of trucks unusual.

In addition to the deaths of refugees trying to cross into Europe by road, thousands are making the perilous journey by sea.

Some 300,000 people have crossed the Mediterranean Sea into Greece and Italy this year alone, according to the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. More refugees and migrants arrived in Greece in July alone than did in all of 2014, the agency said.

So far this year, 2,373 people have died trying to reach Europe by sea, according to the International Organization for Migration. In all of 2014, 3,281 people died.

In just one incident this week, 54 people died trying to cross the Mediterranean, the Italian coast guard said.

On Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said the agency was calling on European leaders to organize a collective response to the needs of migrants and refugees flooding the continent.

"All European countries and the EU must act together and help those countries whose capacities are already overstretched such as Greece, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Serbia," spokeswoman Melissa Fleming said. "This includes capacity support, and support for equitable redistribution of refugees and asylum seekers across" the European Union.

The deaths in Austria highlight the need for a better strategy, Austrian Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner said at a news conference Thursday.

"This horrible crime shows that we must get even tougher in the battle against people smuggling," she said. "People smugglers are criminals and not well-minded helpers. They do not care about the well-being of the refugees, they care about profit."

It's just beyond belief. Another instance....
Three children are recovering in hospital in Austria after being rescued from a minivan containing 26 migrants.
Police said the severely dehydrated children would not have lasted much longer in the cramped vehicle.
The minivan was stopped in Braunau district on Friday and the Romanian driver was arrested after a chase.
