Terrible music you used to be into.

Yeah, what the hell was that all about?
Guitar strings, cargo shorts -- everything fit a little looser in the '90's.

I had a couple of Moby tracks pop up in the mix on the drive into work this morning.

Yeah this was fantastic read.

I still stand by System of a Down's debut (and followup), and I find it hard to seriously group it with the rest of the late 90s nu-metal.

MONSTER riffs on SOAD's debut. I agree they have nothing to do with nu-metal. Opening track is a ripper f'sure.

I really want someone to make a nu-metal documentary using that article as a template.

SOAD were an alternative metal band that were able to become popular due to the success of nu metal.

I hated System of a Down the same way I hated all those bands. They have some defining traits, sure, but the net impression they left on me was always the same.

At the time I was deep into my classic rock phase and wasn't very open to new rock music outside of a few heavy hitting favorites (Pearl Jam and Radiohead mostly and Green Day to a lesser extent) but SOAD was one of the rare exceptions that grabbed me.

I like the songs "Sugar" and "Toxicity" a lot. I don't really know much about the band. I always saw them as being closer to Dead Kennedys than to Korn.

They were just better than all the other popular hard rock bands of the time.
