That's THE fucking rock band. The real deal. It was great to watch that again just now. I remember when that show aired, seeing that performance "live" blew me away. I was high on it for days. I had dvr'd the performance and watched it back for weeks (maybe months). It was so great in every aspect. The band was as tight as it's ever been. They were spectacular, maybe even flawless. Even so, Ed stole the show. He was brilliant. A master of his craft at the absolute pinnacle of his ability. The look he gives just after they finish "Love, Reign..." says it all. Those vocal performances are as good as it gets. Absolute perfection. It still gives me chills. This is the band I love too, strat. It's fun to be reminded of how great they truly were.
The Real Me performance is probably my favorite televised performance they've had. Wonderful on so many levels.

I totally agree. I watched the video last night, I've still got the song stuck in my head, and I'm totally OK with that.

Man, I haven't watched that in ages - they were incredible on that broadcast.

I've said this before somewhere - that Vh1 performance is probably the single best performance from the band post-2006.

It's surprising that it came at the conclusion of the relatively lackluster 2008 tour when everything started to go downhill...

Cameron is fucking on fire in that Who tribute. Brings the whole thing together. Rarely plays with that kind of energy these days.

The best inadvertent part of that whole performance is actually the guy in the crowd at 5:53 that Eddie points at to sing his part. Top-notch crowd coordination.

The boots from that tour are comfortably the worst sound quality on any official bootleg that I've heard.

Don't think I ever got around to listening to anything from '08. What was so bad about them (outside of sloppy performance)? Did Eliason mix them?

That is one of my favourite performances too. I don't personally think it had anything to do with Ed ruining his voice though. His technique is pretty good here. The screaming back in 95 was the sort of thing that ruins voices. Anyway, I digress. He probably kept himself fresh for this performance and wanted to give it his all; something he can't possibly do every night when touring. I think it's still possible for him to pull off a great performance of a few songs like this even now, if his voice is well rested and he's laid off the cigs for a few days at least. Would need a special occasion for him to do so though.
Pearl Jam is the only band I'll spend money on.

Looking back at the concert chronology, they had done the 2008 summer tour, had 2 weeks off and then did the Who show. So they were in "playing shape" but rested.
