Great job first

Two questions
- why don't you include Thumbing my way from Chop Suey? (It Was include in PJ20 sound track)
- maybe it could be off topic. Is there any rip of Vs Vitalogy Cassette of Self Polluted Radio Show? I know there is the broadcast in some old compilations, and this forum have a remaster version of that, anyway I can't listen the cassette in Deluxe box and I like to compare the sound, SPTC include in this compilation sounds awesome

Anything's possible, but as far as I know, nobody's ever admitted to it. then again, nobody said anything about overdubbing any vocals on MTV Unplugged, yet we got what was released in the box set for that.

Did the Momma-Son tape not circulate prior to the reissue?

The versions of "Alive" and "Once" sound understandanly primitive, but the version of "Footsteps" feels pretty fully realized.

Is "Footsteps" the only major PJ song without a proper studio version?

Thanks for picking this up JA
I'm going to upload a final version of the artwork when all discs are completed, as I've picked up a few other bugs (inevitable in a project of this size).

There is an early bootleg version of the Momma-Son tape - I haven't done a comparison but I'm sure if there were any overdubs it would have been brought to light by now.

Last Kiss was recorded at soundcheck, so it depends on whether you consider that a 'proper' studio version :)

This set is to complement the officially released albums and compilations, so any tracks like TMY (Chop Suey) that were only released on official PJ compilations are not included.

Same goes for tracks only available on Greatest Hits RVM - SOLAT (alternate version), the 2004 mixes of Once/Alive/Black, Who You Are (alt. lyric) - while tracks that were released elsewhere first (e.g. I Got ID/Breath on RVM, Black (Unplugged) on PJ20 soundtrack) are included in this set.

Lost Dogs is the exception, as I consider it to be part of the proper PJ cannon, so those tracks are only included here if the version differs from the LD version.

As for the Vs/Vitalogy cassette - I've got something up my sleeve so watch this space ;)

I guess I was thinking more in terms of PJ originals, though from my wording you are certainly right. "Bee Girl" would be another.

In any case, deepest gratitude again for your efforts compiling these tracks. I'm keeping the whole set on my computer for archival purposes, but as I already own about 50% of these tracks in their original forms (and am not quite completist enough for another 5-10%), I made a 4CD mix to serve as a sort of companion volume to my own collection, which I've been playing pretty incessantly. My favorite is my third disc, which is my "Riot Act"-era disc, starting with the Tribute to Heroes "Long Road" and finishing with the Easy Street set. It's pretty disheartening how far south things go on the next disc...

Re: Pearl Jam - B-Sides & Rarities Collection (EV Disc 1&2)

Post by ridleybradout »

The first two EV Discs are now ready.

I must acknowledge the hard work that joostone put into the original 'Innocent Bystander' compilation that was used as the starting point for the EV discs.

A few new additions not available on either joostone or JasonA's previous comps include a couple of Cat Stevens covers ('Trouble' from the 'Dead Man Walking' concert, and 'Don't Be Shy' from Michael Moore's Slacker Generation doco), 'Can't Keep' from the Burn To Shine DVD, and a 'score' version of Into The Wild track 'The Wolf'.

There are also FLAC upgrades to the 'Into The Wild' iTunes bonus tracks, and as usual some fine JWB-remastering of the vinyl-sourced tracks.

Finally, a little known fact - Les Claypool plays bass on 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond'.

Love the Comps and the work that goes into it.

Shine on You Crazy Diamond is Pink Floyd (artwork says Beatles).

Did not know about Les playing on it. Les and Jack. Crazy Rhythms let alone Diamonds. :D

I doubt it. It appears that Eddie copied one channel (the one without Mike) of Stone's demo to a 4-track, and then he filled the other three tracks with vocals. There is never more than four things happening at a time. It's a very simple recording.

I don't know that the PRAMG started immediately PRA -- '04 was still a good year, and "Dead Man" was well within his grasp at that point. The live version on Ridley's PJ comp is superb.

Granted, I don't know why artists record "new" studio versions of anything. I'm sure there are exceptions but it's always struck me as a somewhat ludicrous practice.

It's basically an instrumental with The Wolf incorporated into the end.

I always suspected it was a re-record (most noticeably the way he sings the bridge in the higher octave he does now) but could never find any info (the DMW Deluxe liner notes don't have a date), so thanks for confirming that.

I'll fix it up and move it to Disc 2 - at least now the Dead Men will be spread across different discs :)
