True Detective, Season 3: Tragabigzanda
Any other practical, real-world reasons why one might leave ASCAP? Also, might this mean that they have some new songs to register so they're making this move in anticipation of something? I'm ready for the 11th album, produced by the surviving Parashar brother.

Trag, can you post an 'idiot's guide' bit of background information about what's significant about ASCAP, what it means, etc.

So as a follow up, do Stone or Jeff make any money off of Friends playing Yellow Ledbetter as performers, but not authors, of that song?

Can you dumb that down a bit?tragabigzanda wrote:Sounds about right.Kaius wrote:Everyone is being nice, but we have no fucking clue what you just said.
A simple review: Every song has a composition publisher, a composition songwriter, and a copyright owner of the master recording. The money gets divied up between the three groups, and the most money these days is coming from TV/film placements.

Is there a Making Money From Music for Dummies out there?
Or maybe a visual aide?
I do well with memes and gifs.
Have you seen the Wealthy Eddie Vedder thread? I picked up on that right away.

I had a vague understanding of it before, but your post filled in a lot of blanks. I enjoyed it, but I'm me.tragabigzanda wrote:Happy to oblige, sort of surprised anyone is interested and can follow along. Took me about a month to understand that stuff when I first started working with music publishing.

I hope it was clear clear that I was goofing, I found your post very interesting and you did a great job explaining it. I can't speak for Kaius.
