I tend to have low expectations for all metal lyrics. Black Album included....

The Black Album is great, better than most of their other stuff. The line about people playing just above their ability level in that article Jorge posted really rings true for Metallica, except they were playing way above their level before the Black Album.

I remember hearing the first maybe 8 seconds of St. Anger (song) and getting really excited...and then a few seconds that feeling was quickly dead and buried forever.

Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and ...And Justice for All have a bunch of killer tracks. I never saw the Black Album as anything but a regression into rock 'n' roll mediocrity.

Complexity does not equate to quality. Not dissing early Metallica, but I don't think their later output is even the same type of music, so that kind of comparison doesn't mean much to me.

It reeks of nu-metal at times. This is hilarious.

I haven't heard this album since right after it came out, but I remember the consensus among my friends was that this was Metallica trying, and massively failing, to be System of a Down or something.

Probably not much savings involved in buying a condo in Vail.
