If that was David Gilmour it'd be perfect.

Did you write this post specifically for this thread, or was this a thought you were desperate to share and this happened to be the first place you could put it?McParadigm wrote:Listening to modern day Pearl Jam must be a lot like staying married to someone who is no longer anything at all like the person you married, in heart or appearance, and who you feel nothing for...but you have shared experience and an old photo album and divorce is expensive and I guess she still has that cute nose.

Re: A Guided Tour of Lightning Bolt: Infallible
It might just be awkward Eddie phrasing, but the line "keep on building your floors" is compelling to me. Typically, floors are "laid," not "built"; "building" usually refers to constructing something in an upward fashion. This would suggest that the person constructing the floor would actually be beneath the floor, effectively trapping himself underground (that, or the "floor" is a staircase that just gets progressively and endlessly higher). That's probably not what Eddie meant, but it's a striking image to me, and not necessarily out of sync with what the song is saying.
Fundamentally, this song is my own taste's successor to "Dissident" and the chorus to "Marker" -- i.e. music that RM writes off as generic that really hits a sweet spot for me. This is one of my favorite songs on "LB" -- I think the production is right on, and think the song is really well crafted, though I can understand how some would find the chorus to be a momentum-stopper.

Don't you live in Washington state? My ex and I did a no fault divorce in Washington for about 200 bucks, dude. You should look into it.McParadigm wrote:Listening to modern day Pearl Jam must be a lot like staying married to someone who is no longer anything at all like the person you married, in heart or appearance, and who you feel nothing for...but you have shared experience and an old photo album and divorce is expensive and I guess she still has that cute nose.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.
Infallible is the best song the band has released since Riot Act.

I just can't get on board with that. Parachutes, Marker In the Sand, Pendulum, Got Some, Mind Your Manners, Life Wasted, Severed Hand, Big Wave (yes Big Wave), Sleeping By Myself, My Father's Son, and Johnny Guitar are all better IMO.durdencommatyler wrote:I've said it before and I'll say it again.

To be fair, the only song I truly love from the above list is Parachutes and maybe Marker. The rest I like but don't love.

Given the way that backspacer cut all its big anthems off at the knees it is refreshing to see them write a huge sweeping song and embrace it. It's not cracking my top 10 from the last 3 albums but I understand exactly what is so appealing about infallible

I've really been digging this album lately. And that's from a "hated it" point of view out of the gate
I actually think this one, despite a few duds, and backspacer are good albums. Not what I want my 2015 pearl jam to be doing but still good albums
Self titled remains the dud. Surprising they would choose that one to be the "Pearl Jam" album

All great songs. Not as good as Infallible, though.darth_vedder wrote:I just can't get on board with that. 2 of those tracks are phenomenal and feature in my top 15. Those two are Parachutes and Marker.durdencommatyler wrote:All great songs. without a doubt, the two best songs on that record.durdencommatyler wrote:Man, I love both of those song so much.LetMeSleep wrote:2 of those tracks are phenomenal and feature in my top 15. I wish I could understand the fuss with Life Wasted and Severed Hand. The production on S/T ultimately ruined everything. It is so
"clean" for a rock record. That said, Life Wasted is too long and principle rhythmic riff on Severed Hand just feels cheesy...or worse, a self rip-off from Porch.
The rest of those tracks are right up there with Infallible, but again....the production on S/T, Backspacer, and LB are completely disappointing. It's like they used a manual to mix the record "Mixing Rock Music 101"

Clean? The production on that album is a murky mess. It's the opposite of clean.Yeddie Yedder wrote: The production on S/T ultimately ruined everything. It is so

Perhaps, clean is the wrong word. However, I don't think murky is what I am hearing either. It lacks depth and it lacks character. Everything is upfront and center. I guess I would sub word clean and replace it was generic.
