That makes sense. The lows on S/T are pretty low indeed. Backspacer may be the most consistent mediocre album of the bottom 3, but the highs on S/T prompted me to give it a better ranking than BS / LB.

Our top three albums are a lot closer than I expected. There is only about 1.3 points separating first and third place.

I'm kind of surprised to see that Yield's most common position was 5.

Yield has always been a tale of two albums for me (just like S/T actually). A handful of songs that are among my all time favorites, and a lot of stuff that is decent, and I don't mind hearing, but never really seek out.

It was also the pearl jam record where you really started to see the massive migration of the Ten-Vitalogy fans. The ones who didn't like No Code but were ready to give them one more chance. Definitely a record that, at the time, I felt like I had to defend. By the time Binaural comes out pearl jam was definitely in that space where they didn't really matter much, but hadn't put in enough time to make the transition to old guard standard bearers.

PHATJ wrote:This is the highest I've ever ranked Binaural, and its happened for a number of reasons. It is currently the album I'm playing most and finding most interesting. I was one that had a really hard time warming up to this album in totality. I also used to bemoan the absence of gems like Sad, In The Moonlight, and Education. I still think these songs could have fit into the album, but as I've come to appreciate Binaural for what it is (instead of disliking it for what it isn't) I've found a great admiration for what is there.

Sleight of Hand is the single best song PJ has ever written. Nothing As It Seems is wonderful. I love Breakerfall, Of The Girl, and Rival. Evacuation and God's Dice used to be two of my most hated PJ songs. I have come full circle on Evacuation and I truly enjoy it now. God's Dice is pretty rad too. Then there is Insignificance, Grievance, and Parting Ways. All very strong songs. Thin Air is forgettable, but when I do listen to it I don't hate it at all. Light Years has never been a favorite of mine. I find it pretty boring, but it isn't terrible, and I occasionally almost think I could like it. (I really wish Sad was in its place.) Soon Forget is a stupid song and should never have been on any album, but I can't complain too much about one pure piece of shit making the track list. (Education should've been in this spot.)
There's a lot of apologies there for your number 2 seed
One song that I seriously don't like (Soon Forget) and one I find pretty boring (Light Years) is a lot of apologies?
