I really enjoy the first one. LOVE Cold Girl Fever. Agreed it's probably their weakest album but still solid.PHATJ wrote:Every album (except the first) is nearly perfect.BigRedLedbetter wrote:Their two best albums are their last two probably. That being said Boxer is great. Just a great band.PHATJ wrote:Exactly. And Trouble is fucking awesome.BigRedLedbetter wrote:Lots of folks said this before Trouble came out.BurtReynolds wrote:Yeah, which means this album is going to be disappointing.
If you don't tear up to at least one of their songs you might not have a soul.

I agree that they are one of the best bands out there, but I'd like to see something a little different from them on the next album. Nothing too crazy like eletronica or death metal, but something that opens up their sound a little.

I don't disagree with what you are saying. Give an example band/album wise?turned2black wrote:I agree that they are one of the best bands out there, but I'd like to see something a little different from them on the next album. Re: The National
I just think they've been doing the same kind of "minimalist" sound for the last several albums now. And while I think it's great, I'd like to see them stretch their legs a little, kinda like S-K did with "The Woods".BigRedLedbetter wrote:I don't disagree with what you are saying. I read they have 30 songs written for this next album. It will be interesting to hear.

I was able to find a rip of the "A Lot of Sorrow" boxset. It's going to be an interesting afternoon.

About that 6-hour sorrow concert
There are some very cool versions on it, but its hard to spin that

I was going to download that but had concerns over its merit.

Re: The National
I absolutely love The National, and I love "Sorrow". But six hours of one song is fucking bananas.

Real excited for this. For anyone who's never heard of Brent Knopf I highly recommend downloading Menomena's first album, I am the fun blame monster. Which, appropriately, is an anagram for Menomena's first album.given2trade wrote:I really like the new single from El Vy

I just found out about El Vy. I can't believe I knew nothing of this until a couple days ago. I'm super stoked.Dscans wrote:Real excited for this. Re: The National
I just listened for the first time. This song is fucking awesome. It's like the perfect mix of The National and Beck (who is one of my all time favorite artists). I hear other influences in there too, I'll need to give it a few more listens to sort that out. But what a cool introduction to EL VY for me. I love it.

Re: The National
After another listen, I hear a lot of OKGO in there too. Admittedly, this isn't likely a direct influence, but I hear a lot of similarities in the percussion sounds and guitar sounds, and some of the lyrical content. I guess the vibe is similar. But my initial reaction is still strongest; this sounds like a Beck song sung by Matt Berninger, and I love it.PHATJ wrote:I just listened for the first time. This song is fucking awesome.
