They gave it a shot by drafting Osweiler the immediate draft after signing Manning.
And then didn't give him any playing time. Thirty pass attempts in three seasons. That's not grooming, that's drafting and discarding. Over three season the Broncos had more than enough leads at the end of three quarters to have put Osweiler in but it seems Manning's pursuit of records and career achievements was more important.
Come on, playing time in blowouts doesn't really tell us much, because both teams are putting in other second stringers to avoid injuries. And there are plenty of examples of QBs (AJ Feeley, Kevin Kolb) who came in and looked good for a few snaps but utterly sucked as a regular starter. I'm not going to proclaim that Osweiler is the next answer or not, but there's a lot more that goes into that answer behind the scenes.
I agree. Aaron Rodgers wasn't "groomed" in Green Bay by getting a lot of playing time (7 appearances in 3 years, 59 pass attempts) over Favre. The idea is you bring the young guy in and he practices with and learns from the old sage, not that he's playing significant time.

You draft a quality rookie and groom him for the position or flip him for more picks or a player. Then draft another rookie. Rinse and repeat.

Looks like Austin and Marrone are out of consideration for the HC job. Interesting. Who do you Bronc fans want? Probably Gary Kubiak at this point. Who did ok in Houston.

Kubes would be fine, probably my top choice out of the known candidates.

I'm not sure what Marrone is looking for. I think he is a good coach and I get wanting to leave Buffalo but Denver is a great job. He got an interview then declined? Interesting. Denver would be a good fit for Marrone.

Playing conspiracy theorist here maybe Marrone and Austin are worried Peyton will retire?

I like it. Two guys on the same page. I think the DC is the big choice now. As for the elephant in the room, Elway will be in contact in about four or five weeks.

Also, I'm not sure there's been a Super Bowl in my lifetime where I haven't been able to find a way, deep down, to root for either team. Don't get me wrong, as a football fan I can't wait for this game. But as a Broncos fan I wish it were possible for both teams to lose.

I guess I'm the oddball that doesn't have visceral hate for either team--just temporary butthurt-ness that will eventually go away. I'd take either of them in the Super Bowl over the Raiders, Philip Rivers, and likely plenty of others. In the end, since I'm a Northwesterner I'll likely pull for the Seahawks.

Yeah but that butthurt-ness is strong in this one right now. Due to work, I've dealt with enough smack talk directly from our Seattle office the last twelve months and, yeah New England. Again. And their fans. Again. *edit (By 'their fans' I mean Bill Simmons)

Also, as it stands now the Broncos are poised to pick up some high 2016 comp picks for losing JT and Franklin. Pretty good start to FA so far, odd as it sounds.

Shannon Sharpe got a lot a flak on Twitter for saying Julius Thomas "quit" on the end of last season, but he laid out his case pretty strongly here. I still hold CBS made a big mistake by firing him.

Evan Mathis, nice.

Oh, and regarding the last time I bumped this thread: perhaps Talib took Cris Carter's advice to heart.

Yanno, I'm all for being on the up n' up, but that wasn't terrible advice. It's as easy to vilify as it it is to rationalize.

Oh I think players didn't need Cris Carter to learn about finding fall guys.

A win is a win. That Ravens D is sick as always, but thankfully the Broncos' D was sicker, though that last drive made me queasy. Can't believe Flacco threw that awful pick six after Peyton threw an earlier awful one given how much of a defensive game that was.

Not looking forward to the Arrowhead coming up in just a few days...
