Without hearing it yet I'd say no, that's a fair stance. Just as fair as it wouldn't be overreacting to also say it might be their worst.

With that being said, I'm guessing this should be pretty good...as they all have been thus far. I'm hoping for a loose (by Queens' standards) and groovy record without too much sludge/overpowering noise; I know that goes against the wishes of some RM'ers, but I would love an album that expanded on Lullabies.

So they played on bbc tonight on jools holland and my word it sounds like they've actually tried to write a song instead of banging out the same one they've been playing ever since they started.

They were poorly rehearsed, sounded terrible and Josh either needs to hit the gym or stop smoking. The clips will be online later. Don't expect much. Very capable musicians. Just wish they had some other strings to their bow.

The single?(my god its the sun)and another song that had a ton of melody. josh was totally lost for breath and couldn't do it. Really melodic one. Unusual for them, it sounded and looked like another band.

Benefit of the doubt extended. Just remembering for all the wonderful acts that Holland has on(Robert Plant was sitting in with some girl tonight too) the sound there isn't always up to scratch. In fact it can be bad.

To be honest they just looked and played like they were fuckin knackered. Could have been jet lag.

Maybe.

Still they are one the best live bands around...saw them 4 times and every last time is the best one.
And yeah, these songs sound very similar to what they did in Rated R so thats amazing for me.

So, This crowd repeat themselves and its ok? I don't get that. It always just sounds the same to me. Like the new sigur ros. I think I have all I need from them. It's the same thing but not as good as before. That make sense?

it makes sense, but honestly i dont think you have been listening to their albums. They dont sound the same.

Rated R is a collection of incredible psychedelic songs and Songs for the deaf is pretty much a heavy stoner album.

Those are just two examples...of course they are all written in the context of a rock and roll band, i dont feel they sound similar at all.

I find them a little bit samey too. I don't dislike this band at all but the songwriting/playing subtleties between the different albums can be hard to pick, it only seems to be the production that changes. The stand out singles are always pretty great it seems to be the other 2nd tier album type songs in their catalogue that blur into one.

I've seen them a bunch of times, at high end shows where they were the support and their backs were really up against it. They sound incredible live. I just don't think they're all that as songwriters. Like Jack white in many ways. You r been doing this same song in this same key with this same structure for years now. Try something new. Please.

Not saying they're bad at all, just there's nothing there for me at all. My loss if I'm missing it.

The new QOTSA tracks with Dave Grohl drumming could have easily been new Them Crooked Vultures material if I didn't know they had a QOTSA label on them. But I'm fine with that, it's the Josh Homme thing and that's what people pay their money for. They're not into Ramones territory quite yet.

well i disagree...TCV were more bluesy than any QOTSA song from SFTD...And live they were a different beast too.
