Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

Lots of folks said this before Trouble came out.
Exactly. And Trouble is fucking awesome.
Their two best albums are their last two probably. That being said Boxer is great. Just a great band.

If you don't tear up to at least one of their songs you might not have a soul.
Every album (except the first) is nearly perfect.
I really enjoy the first one. LOVE Cold Girl Fever. Agreed it's probably their weakest album but still solid.

I agree that they are one of the best bands out there, but I'd like to see something a little different from them on the next album. Nothing too crazy like eletronica or death metal, but something that opens up their sound a little.

I don't disagree with what you are saying. Give an example band/album wise?

I just think they've been doing the same kind of "minimalist" sound for the last several albums now. And while I think it's great, I'd like to see them stretch their legs a little, kinda like S-K did with "The Woods".

Makes sense.

I read they have 30 songs written for this next album. It will be interesting to hear.

I was able to find a rip of the "A Lot of Sorrow" boxset. It's going to be an interesting afternoon.

I was going to download that but had concerns over its merit.

I absolutely love The National, and I love "Sorrow". But six hours of one song is fucking bananas.

Real excited for this. For anyone who's never heard of Brent Knopf I highly recommend downloading Menomena's first album, I am the fun blame monster. Which, appropriately, is an anagram for Menomena's first album.

I just found out about El Vy. I can't believe I knew nothing of this until a couple days ago. I'm super stoked.

I just listened for the first time. This song is fucking awesome. It's like the perfect mix of The National and Beck (who is one of my all time favorite artists). I hear other influences in there too, I'll need to give it a few more listens to sort that out. But what a cool introduction to EL VY for me. I love it.

After another listen, I hear a lot of OKGO in there too. Admittedly, this isn't likely a direct influence, but I hear a lot of similarities in the percussion sounds and guitar sounds, and some of the lyrical content. I guess the vibe is similar. But my initial reaction is still strongest; this sounds like a Beck song sung by Matt Berninger, and I love it.
