Our kitchen is getting gutted tomorrow. Ugg.

New kitchen what's the turnaround?

they said 6 weeks, but my friends all laugh at me when I tell them that.

and it will cost 40% more..good times

no shit. this thing started out as a small-scale kitchen re-do so we could basically put the house on the market next spring if we wanted. it's now turned into a huge remodel with sub-zero and wolf appliances, a master-bathroom remodel, staining the floors, knocking a wall down between our family and living rooms, and completely redoing our fireplace. mutha.

sounds fun..our master bath renovation was quoted at 8k and turned out to be about 13k...and this was all done from a friend of mine who is a general contractor.

I don't think $13k is bad. I never really considered the small, but detailed work involved in a bath renovation compared to a kitchen. plus, those damn fixtures are EXPENSIVE.

i'm not gonna lie -- i'm actually a proponent of going a little higher end on the kitchen. if you skimp there, people are going to be wondering where else in the house you've cut corners. and people love those damn red nobs on the wolf ranges.

Ran the dishwasher tonight and water everywhere. I learned about vent pipes and had to cut a huge piece of drywall out on our counter. Then, I came up with the idea to use the shop vac to blow into the vent pipe and get rid of the clog. Have some drywall to fix but didn't have to call the plumber.

It's always fucking something I swear.

Our toilet has been putting off a weird smell for about 3 months now (I know, that's rich coming from a guy who has a poop thread named after him), but it wasn't a poop smell. Last week, the sink in the same bathroom totally clogged, but the clog was nowhere to be seen.

Figured out it was a clog in the vent stack on the roof, it was about 12 feet down. Spent a solid hour on the roof on Saturday pulling it out with a snake. Hugest fucking hairball/gloop clog I've seen. Probably the first time it's ever been cleaned since the house was built 50 years ago. Got it fixed, and stayed up on the roof for 2 beers, Workaholics style.

No idea. Typically those vents get clogged with leaves, and worst case, a mouse or something. No idea how all that shit made it through the sink and toilet and just sat there.

Use the mat but unfortunately you are probably better off (safer) with a chimenea
