Re: Live on Two Legs: Official Album Thread
Holy shit, how are there no posts for this?
I played this today for the first time in a long while, and I'm glad that it is indeed as good as I remembered. What a gem. The tracklisting is damn near perfect, awesome flow to it. The performances are all top notch, and great instrument and vocal tones throughout. I think these versions of Red Mosquito, Even Flow, Do the Evolution and Fuckin' Up are my favorites. The packaging is also stellar with the photography and poster collages. I think this is the best sounding live recording of the band as well. 9/10

I probably haven't listened to this in a decade. Need to remedy that.
You pretty much can't top '98 Pearl Jam. Matt was playing for his life and it adds some real urgency, IIRC.

I agree with you evenslow. The band still played with subtlety and emotion. It was fantastic. Carried through to 2003 and then they got old and happy.

I think they played with urgency in 2006, too. It all goes a bit pear shaped after that though.Strat wrote:evenslow wrote:I probably haven't listened to this in a decade. Need to remedy that.

LO2L is phenomenal. My favourite Red Mosquito and Nothingman ever.

I haven't listened to LO2L in that long too. This thread had inspired me to give it a listen as soon as I get a chance. I remember Red Mosquito being awesome (actually a friend of mine that is only a very fringe PJ fan always loved that version of the song, it was always his favorite PJ song and I'm not sure if he's ever heard the album cut).evenslow wrote:I probably haven't listened to this in a decade. Nothing but glowing praise. What is missing that would push this to a 10?LikeLukin wrote:Holy shit, how are there no posts for this?

Perfect live record -- great song selection, great sequencing, great performances. I have very fond memories of taking the city bus to buy this after school sophomore year and holing myself up in my room and bouncing around the room to it all night. After the $50 bootlegs, the live B-sides, the promise and subsequent redacting of "Give Way" -- a live Pearl Jam album just seemed so overdue. Why hasn't more 1998 stuff been released?

I remember getting so excited when I'd see the commercial they ran leading up to the release.

They had a commercial for Live on Two Legs? I remember the Yield commercial but not the L2L one.

Yeah, if I remember correctly it was a mostly dark screen, and a lot of crowd noise. In one version, the commercial stopped there, and the release info was flashed across the screen. In the extended one, you'd hear the the first few seconds of Corduroy start.

Me and a good buddy of mine would always head up to the gymnastics room at our high school before we had to get ready for our hockey game. We'd warm up in there tossing the football around while cranking this album.

Re: Live on Two Legs: Official Album Thread
I think Matt being tossed into the eye of the storm paid big dividends on this. Everyone is on their toes but the sheer musicianship pulls them through.
Probably his best playing with the band.
Not sure I like it as much as Give Way, but the fact that it's close says a lot.
