Yes. You're totally confused. Phillips was arrested for beating the shit out of his girlfriend in '95.E.H. Ruddock wrote:Maybe I'm confusing him with someone else. I'm with verb. Finding sadness for a human grows increasingly tougher when he continues to perform subhuman acts.

And was reinstated just in time to play in the national championship game. That team was filled with pretty shitty humans.turned2black wrote:Yes. You're totally confused. Could you imagine if that happened today? I recall a pretty damning Sports Illustrated article about the Doctor Tom and that team.turned2black wrote:How dare you speak ill of the The Good Doctor!

Different era. It's not like Nebraska was the only team dealing with shit like this, they were just in the spotlight because they were so good.

I always found it a little strange that Switzer got so much shit for this kind of stuff during that era. I'm sure a large part of that was Switzer's attitude, but still, other teams were doing much the same stuff, if not worse.Monkey_Driven wrote:Could you imagine if that happened today? True story, my cousin lived in the same apartment complex where Phillips assaulted his girlfriend. She wasn't there that night but she said she was always terrified of Phillips on campus.

Truth. All eyes were on us because we were playing for national titles. One missed FG away from winning 4 out of 5.Monkey_Driven wrote:Could you imagine if that happened today? Not condoning anything LP has done or anyone else like him. But it is sad that he couldn't turn his life around. That is all I was getting at.
There is a reason LP was never invited back after he left in 1995.

I had a run in with Christian Peter in 1995. I honestly thought he was going to beat up my friends and I. Talking X's and O's that team won the national title game by 38 points. They would have been just fine without LP. He was actually reinstated like 3-4 games before the national title game. Not that I approved of him being reinstated because I didn't.Monkey_Driven wrote:And was reinstated just in time to play in the national championship game. Doug and Monkey might know what I am talking about.
We have a fast food Tex Mex place called Amigo's. They sell these wonderful (terrible for you) things called crisp meat burritos.

There is an urban legend that Richie Incognito when he was here once ate 100 on a dare. That dude is straight up psychotic. I am shocked he is not in jail or dead to be honest. Just a terrible human being.

Re: College Football
I agree 100% with this. Switzer and TO are very similar in that they have skeletons from the same graveyard. Totally different personalities though obviously. The spotlight was on them because they were playing in big games. If they were coaching at KU or Purdue it wouldn't be as well-documented.turned2black wrote:I always found it a little strange that Switzer got so much shit for this kind of stuff during that era. I always really liked Switzer. As does my Dad.
