Cool. Both Divergent movies have been enjoyable so far. Maze Runner was done well and the previews at least for the second one, The Scorch Trials, looks decent.

I always laugh whenever anyone says "the Scorch" in the previews, though.

Katniss might be the least interesting protagonist I've ever seen a movie. Obnoxious make-up and costume design. Annoying direction and editing (handheld hasn't bothered me in a long time but this went way too far). Completely empty on a thematic level (the dystopian premise is not an effective allegory for anything, which is baffling). Josh Hutcherson is terrible. It's as grim and depressing as a holocaust movie, but without any historical or subtextual significance. It's way too long. What a worthless piece of filmmaking.LoathedVermin72 wrote:The Hunger Games is garbage.
I have no idea how it wasn't rated R, though; lots of savage, bloody violence - and all directed at kids!
If you thought Katniss was bland as hell I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the Divergent. Whew. That shit was expository dialogue City.

I liked the Hunger Game books, but the movies have been pretty lackluster.jwfocker wrote:LoathedVermin72 wrote:Sparked by my recent Twilight viewings, I decided to see what's going on with other YA movies, so I actually have Divergent and The Host next up. They're both shitty, but The Hunger Games is significantly better than Divergent.

That second Hunger Games barely qualified as a movie.

I disagree. At least the Divergent books had what felt like some personal connections between characters. Not emotionless Katniss trying to show she "loves" a horribly acted Peeta, but is torn between him and that guy that makes it creepy by acting like her older brother-sometimes-lover played by Thor's brother.turned2black wrote:They're both shitty, but The Hunger Games is significantly better than Divergent.

I like Francis Lawrence as a stylist, but yeah, I'm not optimistic about watching the next chapters.BurtReynolds wrote:That second Hunger Games barely qualified as a movie.

Money, verm. Money is how it wasn't rated R. Just like every (hard) PG-13 movie that's ever existed.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Man, this sucked. Re: What movies are you watching?
And, no surprise, here, I'm a fan of The Hunger Games films. I've only seen the first two. And the books are definitely better but I still like the movies too. And there are things about the movies that I like more, actually.

Re: What movies are you watching?
The love story between the two leads in Divergent was terrible. The acting was bad, particularly the dude who played Four. And I love Shailene Woodley, but she was horribly miscast in that role. The set designs and overall look was unimaginative. The dystopian backstory was dumb, even by YA sci-fi standards. And the dialogue was laughable.E.H. Ruddock wrote:I disagree. Went and saw The Man from U.N.C.L.E last night with Mrs Rangi - what a delightful film!
