Re: Kids Will Be Skeletons (the Mogwai thread)
Mogwai's Facebook page shows them back in the studio recording more stuff for the "Les Revenants" series. The first soundtrack is probably my favorite of their last few releases so I am pretty excited about this.

Sweet!
Members of Slowdive and Mogwai form new supergroup Minor Victories
The four-piece has yet to release any new music, but promises a debut album is on the way, one that’s said to feature guest collaborators like Mark Kozelek.

Season 2 of Les Revenants is slated to start airing on Sept. 28 in France. Hopefully we'll hear news about an EP or full-fledged soundtrack soon.

Stuart Braithwaite rates Mogwai's albums: http://noisey.vice.com/blog/rank-your-r ... raithwaite. He reveals some interesting insights about a few of the records.
For those only interested in the list, here's his order:
1. Happy Songs for Happy People
2. Come On Die Young
3. Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will.
4. Mogwai Young Team
5. Mr. Beast
6. Rock Action
7. Rave Tapes
8. The Hawk is Howling

Surprised to see The Hawk at the bottom. Batcat, Kings Meadow, Thank You Space Expert, The Sun Smells Too Loud, Scotland's Shame. Some stellar tracks on that album.Brett wrote:Stuart Braithwaite rates Mogwai's albums: http://noisey.vice.com/blog/rank-your-r ... raithwaite. Also, one of their best outtakes, Stupid Prick Gets Chased by the Police and Loses His Slut Girlfriend.

Re: Kids Will Be Skeletons (the Mogwai thread)
My two favorites are Stuart's #1 and #8. It seems like his issues with "Hawk" are more "vision not matching up with final product" issues as opposed to a real dislike of the album. Those kinds of things really affect how artists perceive their own products.
And yeah, "Stupid Prick" is a great track.

Indeed. Hawk is definitely a top three album, and often rotates with Hardcore and Happy Songs as my favorite Mogwai record.

Re: Kids Will Be Skeletons (the Mogwai thread)
I'm listening to Young Team for the first time in a while and I'm realizing that I don't think I've ever really given this album a fair shake. For some reason my mental image of the album has always been that outside of "Summer," "R U Still In 2 It?," and "Mogwai Fear Satan," the album is mostly just variations on tracks similar to "Like Herod," which totally isn't true. Not that "Herod" is a bad track, it's just longer than it should be. I really like the chilled out atmosphere that much of the album dabbles in and I'm also quite fond of the electronic bits.
Also, is it just me, or does "Mogwai Fear Satan" have the best drum tracks in the band's whole discography?

Strong contender. It definitely fits the song very well (another favorite Mogwai song of mine, by the by), but I still gotta give it to "Satan."Yeddie Yedder wrote:May Nothing But Happiness! Re: Kids Will Be Skeletons (the Mogwai thread)
Listened to "Central Belters" with morning.
Overall, I think they did a decent job of picking tracks. I'm a little surprised they included 4 tracks off Mr. Beast and one of those four wasn't "Glasgow Mega-Snake". Such a killer track and it's been a live staple for them for years. We could probably debate all day over what should have been included on the outtakes/rarities disc. But one thing that jumps out at me is the inclusion of "Hungry Face". It should have been in the "hits" section. I'm guessing that could be Mogwai's most recognizable song for people who aren't really fans.
