Re: The Mynabirds
I'm listening to Generals and while I do like the album a lot better, this is actually really good. I'm not into some of the arrangements (all the bells and whistles stuff) but they kinda work here.
Karma Debt and Generals are fantastic.

I really like those two songs , but the album goes downhill for me after that. Lovers Know is a better all around record

Re: The Mynabirds
Wolf Mother is still probably my favorite Mynabirds song.
Generals also has Buffalo Flower, Disaster, Mightier Than the Sword and Greatest Revenge which are all so fucking good they make me want to cry and sing and die and dance and kiss everyone in the room.
So, yeah, Generals is pretty fucking great.

Re: The Mynabirds
But all of their albums are great in their own way. I'd probably rank them in the order they've been released:
1. WWL
2. Generals
3. LK
There's an admitted drop off for me between Generals and LK. But I still think LK is a really solid album that keeps improving with each listen. There's a lot there to love. And I'd put Velveteen and Hanged Man among my all time favorite Mynabirds songs. Right up there with Wolf Mother and Right Place.

The gap has certainly shorted as I've listened to it more and more.cutuphalfdead wrote:The more I listen to Lovers Know the less of a drop I think there is.

I'm at the point where I think it's perfectly reasonable for someone not to rank it last. In fact, I might like it better than Generals. I'm not sure yet though.durdencommatyler wrote:The gap has certainly shorted as I've listened to it more and more.cutuphalfdead wrote:The more I listen to Lovers Know the less of a drop I think there is.

Re: The Mynabirds
I could see it overtaking Generals at a certain point down the road, yeah. I have to see how it ages. But it has huge potential as far as that goes. Generals does seem to have a bit of a "time and place" element to it. It's already lost a bit of it's power and I could see it becoming more of a nostalgic, "remember the time" kinda piece.cutuphalfdead wrote:I'm at the point where I think it's perfectly reasonable for someone not to rank it last. That's why I think songs like Wolf Mother and Buffalo Flower are so great. Because they add to the theme/concept of the record but they stand on their own, too. They exist outside of the political spectrum, the time and place the record was written in.
