Going through this process is more fun than work, surprisingly. I started with the oldest album in my collection and am working my way forward from there. The 50's and 60's were really easy. 70-77 was a real bitch minus a couple of gems that stood above the rest despite there being several great albums to contend with. I think the 80s will be a lot like the 50-60s due to clear favorites/lack of competition (which has everything to do with my own music diversity shortcomings and not the quality of music made).
