I miss Craig.

Interview with Ted Cruz was pretty great. Nice to see a late night host who doesn't just stick to fluff questions and celebritize the guest.

I will have to check that out. Late Night needs someone who asks interesting questions that make guests think.

His question about Reagan and raising taxes was so great.

I think he's in an awkward in-between place right now trying to concurrently distance himself from the Colbert character while setting up a "he asks the tough questions" politically focused show. If he continues the trend of having the political guest on for two segments I hope he uses the second one to ask tougher questions after softening them up a bit initially. I feel like all of his political interviews have been too soft so far. I realize part of this is probably to establish credibility that he isn't still the character, but I do look forward to him truly making people squirm again.

I definitely don't think he should become less politically focused, that's where his main talent resides and it is what makes him different from his network competitors.

I agree. I really hope he continues to have guests on that aren't just TV or movie stars. Ask some serious questions and also joke around a bit. He'll figure out a good balance as time goes on.

He nailed it with Ted Cruz I thought.

Liking this a lot so far. Good balance between goofy / silly (which Colbert does well), and a bit of dramedy with the CEO's / Political guest (I liked the Cook, Cruz and Warren interviews).

I've been recording these show on DVR and so far I think he's about half and half in the fail/win dept but honestly I'm happy he's on at all. Who ever said first year in late night TV is going to be a bit rough. dude needs to get his footing and he'll be good, right now I feel like he's trying to be more like letterman, which doesn't suit him. otherwise I'm fine having him do the show

they have really diverged from typical late night. its pretty cool.

i do think colbert steps on people's toes in the interviews too much, and half of the humor doesn't work, but I too suspect it will find it's footing.

I gotta say, guys - this show really isn't working for me. I find Colbert unfunny and unappealing in this format. The writing is weak; I never laugh during the show, especially during Colbert's solo segments. The celebrity interviews are vacuous and dull. The political interviews have already become stale. The whole energy and vibe feels daytime, not late night. It's just...kinda boring. And uninteresting. I guess I'll come back in a year or two to see if anything's improved.
