Re: Ryan Adams
It is really good pop album. Between commercials, sporting events, the radio, and everything else I feel like I hear a song or two of hers every week.

Re: Ryan Adams
Listening to Ryan Adams made me listen to the original tracks. i have heard a ton of the singles but never knew they were taylor swifts. I actually always enjoyed "style" and recognized a handful of others.

The chemist? Is this Aussie-speak for "pharmacy?"Birds in Hell wrote:I heard Shake It Off when I was waiting in line at the chemist once but I think that's it.

I remember seeing a viral vid of a cop lip syncing shake it off in his squad car. Cops are the worst.

Ha, I think both terms are used pretty interchangeably over here.Kevin Davis wrote:The chemist? Is this Aussie-speak for "pharmacy?"Birds in Hell wrote:I heard Shake It Off when I was waiting in line at the chemist once but I think that's it.

For the most part I like it. It's an interesting take and really shows the strength of the songs themselves when you hear them in a different style.LetMeSleep wrote:I'm interested how KD dct and Chud feel about this. I think they all like the original album.

lol. I think it brought out how bad the lyrics are and how standard issue the phrasing is.
Theres nothing wrong with that because its pop music and it does what it sets out to do. Simplistic, straight forward, dumb and catchy.

I feel like you are trying to make a point but i dont get it. 1989 was a conscious effort to make such a dumbed down pop record and thats what we are discussing here.
Taylor Swift has talent. No doubt.

Re: Ryan Adams
I listened to about 2/3 of it this morning and thought it was completely unremarkable. I don't feel as though he brings anything new or surprising or even vaguely interesting to these songs; I don't think he's in particularly good voice on the recording; and the interpretive liberties he takes consistently strip the songs of their melodic coherence. I don't think it succeeds as an interpretive statement, and I don't think it succeeds as a fun novelty project; to me it just sounds like a run-of-the-mill Ryan Adams album.LetMeSleep wrote:I'm interested how KD dct and Chud feel about this. That's a relief -- I was worried you'd gotten yourself into a "Breaking Bad"-type situation, I was about to get busy looking up ways to stage an intervention over the internet.Birds in Hell wrote:Ha, I think both terms are used pretty interchangeably over here.Kevin Davis wrote:The chemist? Thankfully, we live in an age where it's easier than ever to avoid mainstream pop garbage. Hooray for fragmentation!

I get that, but you still interact with a world that has music playing in the background and such. Her music has been everywhere.BurtReynolds wrote:Thankfully, we live in an age where it's easier than ever to avoid mainstream pop garbage. Hooray for fragmentation!
