Check out the video version of MYM on the rarities comp. it sounds pretty similar, which continues to point to the BoB conspiracy
Guys, it's pretty simple - this performance and the video version are the ONLY times they've ever played the song in the same key as the album version. It's the down-tuning at shows to allow Ed to cope that makes it sound so much more muddy and less satisfying in concert.
For the win! :hooray:

Plus Ed's able to handle a one-off song in the style of the album version. I would think they have to compensate live bc he's singing a song like that after already blowing through Animal, DTE, Why go, World Wide Suicide, etc

I'm pretty certain they've always played this song in the same tuning, RB. I haven't heard every boot but they've played it in standard tuning every time I've heard it.

Exactly. At this point, I'd be way happier with a shorter setlist, a less-inebriated Eddie, and better performances.
That's what I liked about the VFC shows. They were shorter, but they were also balls out awesome.

I really enjoyed the sit down, acoustic portion of those shows.

if i could nitpick.. and this applies not only to last night, but one thing that irks me about eddie (and basically every other rock singer who ages, it seems) is how he delivers words/syllables ahead of the beat. the verses of RITFW are a prime example of this.

does this drive anyone else nuts? does he think it sounds good - as opposed to delivering the vocals in rhythm?

I have no idea why he does it for RITFW. He's been doing that for a long time and its why i have found the cover so annoying the past 10 years.

Sounded excellent! And no negative comments in here yet. I love it!

I know the Colbert show is doing all mixing on yamaha CL5 consoles but I'm not sure who the mix engineer is

I would love it if Stone could lose that, what appears to be, disdain for Ed and they could floor us with next release. I'm sure it's a two way thing but that really seems like the hang up. The others all seem ready to roll whenever

And please ditch BOB for the next album

Wow, yeah, they really rocked the shit out of that performance. With that kind of energy and low-end thump, I could see the MYM intro being at home on Vs. Really amplifies just how much BOB is neutering this stuff in the studio.

I just had a closer listen and I think you're right Matt, it's usually in this key, I just got thrown off by Ed's vocals being so spot on.

But what would I know, I'm a drummer, not a musician :P

I finally got a chance to watch this.

I thought it was excellent, best TV performance I recall these guys doing in a while. Mix seemed very good too, which helps.

Not bad at all.
