I fucking love the Cable Guy.
I'm not entirely sure what to make of it as a whole but goddammit Carrey is incredible. He somehow manages to be understatedly terrifying and heartbreaking while simultaneously being wildly over-the-top. Seems like that shouldn't be possible. He's a really great actor.
The Truman Show is a desert island flick for me.
Oh yeah, I love that movie.

Actually, it's because the movie just isn't that bad, friend.
Just finished with the jungle chase section. It was pretty horrible. Kinda ruined some of the good feelings I had.

Parts of the movie are laughably awful. But the movie as a whole is fine. It's not far and away worse than any of the other Indy films. It's not as good as a couple of them, either. But it's not some runaway disaster that betrays some mythical integrity of the franchise like some paint it to be.

It's fine. There are dumb parts. There are fun parts. The ending is weird. It's Temple of Doom 2. And then we all go home and watch something else.

Patrick Stewart's voice is fucking ridiculous. Like, that guy just sounds like that in regular conversation. Absurd. He should charge people whenever they hear him speak.

To be fair, Temple of Doom is actually more realistic (by which I mean, less absurd and supernatural) than any of the the other Indy films.

I'm not saying it's 100% accurate and authentic. But ancient Aztecs did used to perform operations where they pulled beating hearts from living people.

But the holy spirit coming out of a box, an immortal knight, the holy grail, surviving a nuclear blast in a fridge, and alien technology are all complete fiction (some of it horseshit fiction). So, yeah, ToD is still the most "realistic" of all the Jones's.

The poison/antidote thing is the least believable part of the whole thing, really.

Yeah, you've got a point. The supernatural elements are comparatively light in there. I'd never even thought about that.

I give ToD a hard time because it's fun to give it a hard time. But the bottom line is that I think it's a lot of fun. There are some great scenes in it and it's quotable as shit. Super fun!

But that's my ultimate point. Crystal Skull might be the worst of the them, but it isn't so far off the rails, so totally different or more absurd than the others. It's all just entertainment.

Let's rank the Indiana Jones movies by realism.

The least realistic is Crystal Skull, because it's not even realistic to believe anybody would make that piece of shit.

For sure. The execution is the problem for me, not the material.

The only thing I don't like about Doom is the silly inflatable raft bit at the beginning. And Crystal Skull repeats it with the stupid waterfall, only its three times worse in that one.

There are two major problems with Skull. The first is nostalgia and the fact that it came out when we were all in our late 20s/early 30s.

The second is that SS directed in much later in life. Those two things combined created a viewing experience that was lacking and ridiculous. Had SS made it ten years earlier we'd all love it as much as (or more than) Doom.

Wrong. There is one problem with Crystal Skull, and his name is George Lucas.
