Re: The Black Keys
Black Keys are great. People dont like derivative music and they started off as a blues garage duo. But they were fucking awesome at it. Those were some of the greatest shows i have seen. Black keys in small clubs. Fuck yea.
I think the last two albums were fairly mediocore but i think Brothers is one of the best albums in the last 10 years for sure.
Dan auerbach is great.
Overall i love the Keys but i wont spend $70 to see them in an arena.

also jack white really needs to shut the fuck up. He gets on the keys for being the same thing that the white stripes were. And jack white is ay too successful to act like such a fucking cry baby.

Agreed, Jack himself is pretty derivative of many other before him as well.Strat wrote:also jack white really needs to shut the fuck up. He gets on the keys for being the same thing that the white stripes were. And jack white is ay too successful to act like such a fucking cry baby.

I think I'm about to get into this band. Where should I start? The harder/heavier the better.

I'm in the same camp, although I haven't heard The Kimbrough album.LetMeSleep wrote:Thickfreakness
Chulahoma: The Songs of Junior Kimbrough
Attack and Release
Those ones have the touch. The rest are okay. Last one didn't tickle me.

Start at the start - Thickfreakness is the answer you seek.Leatherhead wrote:I think I'm about to get into this band. Where should I start? The harder/heavier the better.

Re: The Black Keys
I would start at The Big Come Up. Auerbach was stretching his legs, and total control of songs, on Thickfreakness but I don't feel it is a stand-out grabber.Varis wrote:Start at the start - Thickfreakness is the answer you seek.Leatherhead wrote:I think I'm about to get into this band. I know you said harder/heavier but Chulahoma: The Songs of Junior Kimbrough is tremendous.

I really enjoyed Turn Blue also, though I dug Attack & Release (2008) a lot; definitely enjoyed it more than Brothers and El Camino... probably combined.AndySlash wrote:i like turn blue a lot. probably my favorite of theirs since the kimbrough record.

El Camino is what made me start paying these guys some serious attention - it'll always have a special place in my heart

I don't know that they've made a truly five star album yet. But I want them to.

It's been very quiet the last 5 years, but all of sudden there's a new single:

Going on a full tour. Man, i sometimes forget that they are an arena band. I saw them maybe 6-7 times in small clubs and i dont think I can justify seeing them in a big arena now.
Gotta be a new album though ye?

Same. Saw them in an arena once. It felt weird.Strat wrote:Going on a full tour. Man, i sometimes forget that they are an arena band. I saw them maybe 6-7 times in small clubs and i dont think I can justify seeing them in a big arena now.
