Re: Global Citizen Festival (NYC/2015)
Was at the show tonight, it was a great concert, but jeez, only one hour? I was hoping for 1.5
The setlist was great, but needed more songs.
So strange to open with Mind Your Manners, that just IMO doesn't work as an opener. I guess they figured that they would hit the ground running since they were short on time, but it's just not one of their best songs, live or otherwise.
Highlights were Small Town, Lightning Bolt, Betterman, Alive, and the entire encore was just amazing, with Imagine, Redemption Song, and Rockin in the Free World. Seeing Bill Nye dance around with Pearl Jam was awesome lol. The band sounded great but wish they got more time. IMO the weakest songs were the first 3 then everything was great from there.

Re: Global Citizen Festival (NYC/2015)
Just watched the MSNBC version of the show and consider me happy. It really hit me during this particular performance that we're really lucky that our favorite band gets to keep doing shit like this 25 years in. Especially considering the current music landscape, this is lottery level shit.
All the disclaimers, i.e., they're never what we all want them to be, but whatever, we're assholes, they're still doing it, and they sounded fantastic. Lightning Bolt has somehow transformed itself into a live Who song and how cool was it to see Mr. Edward with Ms. Beyonce on a Mr. Marley song. If you don't enjoy the fuck out of that I honestly feel sorry for you, because that made my night.
Man that was fun. Hail Hail Pearl Jam.

Jeez that sucks, those last 3 were major highlights, why would they cut Imagine? It was perfect for the venue. And RITFW was the big finish with everyone on stage that had Bill Nye fanning the guitars and jumping around the entire time. and Alive of course is their most famous song. Why not just cut MYM, Do the Evolution, and Given to Fly? Starting with Small Town the whole show would have been greatevenslow wrote:Daughtermikejasond wrote:Also wow what got cut on TV?

Wow, the fans are not happy on facebook. They are spamming every MSNBC post with "FUCK YOU MSNBC FOR CUTTING PEARL JAM AND WASTING OUR TIME. YOU PISSED OFF THE WRONG FANS!!". It's pretty funny.

So Pearl Jam doesn't like doing broadcasts because of censorship...they finally give in and do another broadcast, and they are censored again? That's too funny.

Re: Global Citizen Festival (NYC/2015)
Saw the show tonight ended up being shorter then usual. My friend was a LT for the NYPD and got the back stage detail. He was able to bring my friend and I back for some vip free food and drinks and just seiin any star imaginable in the behind the stage area, I got some photos with Matt, Boom and Mike. Met jeff briefly, he didn't seem like he was having any fun. Saw ed and stone, but each time they were with there famlies and I didn;t want to be THAT guy. The pearl jam entourage is like 50-60 deep. Ed's wife really enjoys being well Ed's wife I guess. Hell of a night, sound in the front was quite good. Too bad they got cut short due to delays.

Musicians bringing non-musical celebrities on stage just to cause a spectacle is becoming one of my pet peeves, and I fear that Pearl Jam (what with Dennis Rodman and all) may be pioneers in the field.

oh,come on Burt. Bille Nye was part of a million person group that was on stage for the encore. he wasn't doing anything more than Olivia Wilde was doing.BurtReynolds wrote:Lol you definitely don't want to see this one.Kevin Davis wrote:I wouldn't want to see any of that.mikejasond wrote:Jeez that sucks, those last 3 were major highlights, why would they cut Imagine? Re: Global Citizen Festival (NYC/2015)
I'm just saying if you don't like a bunch of non-musician celebrities and rich folk dancing around during RITFW, this would be the ultimate turnoff. To me it was the perfect cap to a bizarre festival/telethon.Strat wrote:oh,come on Burt. The Beyonce thing was the highlight of the show. I think Ed actually outdid her, heh.
The rest was meh but whatever, it wasn't for me.
