Wow, that's like 90% of successful movies.

Maybe yeah. Lot of direct product placement these days too.

Little birdie says there's official album news a week or so after the tour dates are announced.
Fingers crossed.

Didn't Singles get stuck in release limbo for two years because the studio felt it wasn't particularly commercial?

Yeah that's when they shoed in all the bands cos they were hip n happening at the time.

That movie did more for the promotion of the whole grunge thing than anything else in many ways.

Eh? The whole film, bands included, was shot in 1990. Pearl Jam were (relative) nobodies at the time, Eddie Vedder could very well have gone on to be best remembered as a bit part actor in a Cameron Crowe film.

I doubt the film itself did much for the bands or the Seattle music scene, the "grunge" explosion was already well under way by the film's eventual release in late 1992. It was only a relatively modest success, Wikipedia states it made less than Crowe's directorial debut (Say Anything) and a whole truckload less than his subsequent films (Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous, etc.) The soundtrack CD was arguably a bigger comparative success than the film was, given that it went platinum and made it to the Billboard Top 10.

(As an aside, Tad Doyle's cameo rules.)

But did the movie help launch that scene on a global level or vice versa. I think while it was a bit of both, the film certainly let me and lots of my friends actually see the bands we were discovering and getting into, outside a contrived/limited MTV video format. No bad thing.

Is Tad in there?? I never knew that.

The best thing about that movie is the cameos.

Still my favorite cameo in movie history.
