I'm still baffled by the praise The Conjuring gets.

Conjuring was really good until its final act, during which it totally collapsed.

There were like a dozen moments that were blatantly stolen from other, better, haunted house movies. And they never felt like homages or references, they just felt like lazy writing. And there was no atmosphere at all.

Also, I really like Ron Livingston and Vera Farmiga, and this movie wasted both of them. Plus, the guy who played Ed Warren had a weird pseudo Bob Odenkirk thing going on.

Ghostbusters is 1000% NOT a horror movie, guys.

Re: List Your Top 10 Favorite Horror Movies
Good thread, I missed it last year. Weird, b/c I love to go on a Suspense / Horror / Creepy film kick for the Fall. Some smoke, a good flick, my wife cozied up to me, and some pumpkin beer / brown ale / Oktoberfest, and all is good.
Some of my favorites.
The Shining
Halloween (1979)
The Thing
Friday The 13th (the first one is pretty good)
A Nightmare On Elm Street
Trick Or Treat (more fun / silly / creepy, not scary)
Paranormal Activity
Texas Chain Saw Massacre
The Omen
The Conjuring
The Strangers
That's all I can think of now, but I know there are a bunch I'm forgetting. I have a few on the list to watch this year too.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

The Thing is good stuff. I like slow burners / suspense building movies, and The Thing definitely hits on that.

I liked Trick Or Treat. I occasionally hear talk of a sequel but it never seems to happen. Lets face it Anthologies are ratings and box office death.
