Unfortunately, most of sports writing is just 'watch the game, listen to the players say their canned snippets, and make a bunch of shit up.' This goes way beyond that, and is very well written. There seems to be no way the Nats can bring back Matt Williams or Papelbon next year.
They should fire Rizzo too.

You could make that case. His moves were detrimental to the players' morale. But you could also make the case that he made the 25-man roster better without increasing salary, and that it was the manager's job to keep up morale. It seems to really be both. The players felt that neither the front office nor the coaching staff had their back or even had a plan.

The dude went to a ballgame in a dress shirt. Clearly he isn't a regular game-goer.

Yeah, the double-header made it a bit awkward, but that was fun.

Jose Bautista played the bottom of the ninth with a GoPro in his back pocket so he could film the celebration.

Apparently, when the Jays were looking to improve their bullpen at the deadline, the Phillies made an offer to send them Papelbon. The rumour (I don't think it's been confirmed) is that Anthopoulos, who's been putting a lot more stock in individual players' character the last couple years, talked to Roy Halladay, who told him to steer clear.

Because Roy Halladay is the best.

I know! People keep saying stuff about how that chick is going to dump him. The guy is obviously loaded, not only was he sitting there, look at what he considers casual ballgame wear.

I'll give him a pass on the middle one, kind of a bad hop. But his problem in the first and third is that he tried to two-hand them. Just stick one hand out and catch it!

I've fielded some pretty shady grounders at 3B after a sixer doug.

Jesus, the Cubs are going to win 97 games ... and finish in third place in their division. Crazy.
