Outside of one scene, I really don't like Signs much at all. And it's aged really poorly.

Unbreakable is the only decent Shyamalan movie. Although the Mark Wahlberg one was so bad it was kinda enjoyable.

That's still one of my go-to films. I love the shit out of that movie despite the flawsdurdencommatyler wrote:Outside of one scene, I really don't like Signs much at all. And it's aged really poorly.

Signs is one of those that I totally get why people love, it just isn't for me. But I get why people dig it. And I really loved it after the first time I saw it. It just started to topple the more and more I watched it and now I don't find much compelling about it, outside of the scene where Phoenix sees the alien on the news, which is breathtaking.Rangi Guy wrote:That's still one of my go-to films. I love Signs despite its stupidity. I remember really liking The Village before the awful, ill-timed twist reveal. But I haven't seen it since theaters.

For me, after Sixth Sense, I just let go of the whole twist ending shtick. I've gone into all of his movies figuring there would be one. Sometimes there is and sometimes there isn't. But whether or not there is has little baring on whether or not I like or appreciate the movie.

All entertaining and very rewatchable, despite any flaws:
Sixth Sense
Unbreakable
Signs
The Village

So are we willing to admit yet that M. Night Shyamalan is a master film maker - possibly the best since Hitchcock?

I have no problems with twist endings. I just think the one in The Village actively destroyed what I was enjoying about the movie.durdencommatyler wrote:For me, after Sixth Sense, I just let go of the whole twist ending shtick. Re: What movies are you watching?
I thought it was a pretty obvious twist. But it didn't ruin anything for me. It was much better than some of the other just trite and convenient lesser plot reveals that really just don't make any sense.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I have no problems with twist endings. Re: What movies are you watching?
The acting in The Village is atrocious. Even William Hurt lays an egg in that movie.

I haven't seen the thing in years, but I recall a lot of the performances being compelling. Especially BDH.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Some examples in this clip. Bad acting in the scene between Hurt and Howard. Poor use of hand-held camera when Hurt addresses the elders. On the good side, I guess she falls into the hole nicely.

I've been wanting to revisit the movie for a while now but I'm terrified that I remember it being so much better than it is. There's 90% chance I'll agree with you after I see it again.
